Gifts For A New Mom, From Etsy

If you don't have a kid, it might be doubly difficult to know what to buy for a friend who does -- especially if she's new to the role. It's easy to go online and order the first baby-themed picture frame or Gymboree onesie you see, but if you want to make the gift a bit more personal (and something she'll actually use), it's probably best to look a little harder.

My favorite on the list: Extra memory for my mommy memory card because she is forgetful of her children's names!

I've been called every siblings name and once in awhile a pet's name :p by both parents and aunts/uncles

Well, I hate to break it to MMS, but 6 of the 10 gifts shown ARE for moms, or women, and that's if one counts the art or wall piece as being for a baby!!

I don't know that huffpo, or the rest of the nation, in fact are baby-crazy. This is just a nice gift giving guide. If you prefer a gift certificate or free babysitting, please let your friends and family know. There's no real need to offer a negative opinion ... especially if it's based on a faulty premise.

I hate to break it to you, but none of those gifts are for a new mom. Those are for a baby. A new mom needs a gift certificate for a massage, a friend who will watch the baby for an evening so she and her partner can get dinner together, and/or a nice bottle of wine. Being a new mom is not all about the baby. Our culture is so baby-crazy that we forget to nurture the nurturer. Trust me. A bottle of California Baby bubble bath will not make your new friend's day quite as much as a gift that says, "I appreciate all your hard work as a new mom, so enjoy a free moment on me!"

Sorry, but none of those gifts are for a new mom. They're for a baby. A new mom needs a gift certificate for a massage, a friend who will watch her baby for a night so she can have a dinner out with her partner, and/or a nice bottle of wine. Sorry huffpo, being a mother is not all about the baby!
