Nancy Pelosi On Newt Gingrich: 'I Know A Lot About Him'

Newt Gingrich Nancy Pelosi

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that she knows "a lot" about former House Speaker Newt Gingrich because she served on the ethics committee that investigated him, according to an interview with Talking Points Memo published Monday.

"One of these days we'll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich," she said. "I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff."

She also said she liked Rep. Barney Frank's (D-Mass.) quote on Gingrich. Frank said last week, "I did not think I had lived a good enough life to be rewarded by Newt Gingrich being the Republican nominee."

The ethics committee investigation, Pelosi said, was so sensitive that she once asked her husband to leave the bedroom at 3 a.m. so she could talk privately on the phone.

"He is such a hypocrite," she said of Gingrich in a 1997 San Francisco Chronicle interview after the ethics committee had finished its work on the case. Gingrich was sanctioned $300,000 following the investigation. However, Pelosi wanted him to be censured. "I think if a person loved the House of Representatives, if he loved his party, he would step aside," she said.

Pelosi and Gingrich appeared in a 2008 ad on a sofa in front of the U.S. Capitol calling for action on climate change. Gingrich recently called the ad "the dumbest single thing I've done in years."

Despite the glee of some Democrats to have Gingrich as a top Republican candidate, some Democratic strategists told the Washington Post that he could present challenges to President Barack Obama, because he could energize the conservative base and gain Hispanic support with his extensive outreach organization.

That's kind of saying a lot to anybody who's used to the oddly genteel manner in which "The Speaker" usually addresses any topic with an understated quality that makes you wonder whether she's really representing what people  Read More...

A real Christmas treat to be sure. Washington Insiders engaging in mutually assured destruction (MAD) tactics. You can bet there is more than enough mud to go around. I wonder how much collateral damage can occur to take down a few more Beltway Bozos.

There must be something about shady democrats waiting around to blow whistles on republican candidates who become front runners. Nancy Pelosi is obsessed and will stoop to any level to return to the House Speaker’s position. Apart from being a puppet to Obama, the former speaker ought to be held accountable for her own sins.

AMEN!!! She never did drain that swamp she kept talking about....someone mentioned something about double standards in an earlier post...she is a fine one to point a finger at Former Speaker Gingrich. Her fear of losing control of her seat of power created a "new position" in The House of Representatives, making a place for Congressman Clyburn (D - SC), placating him, as he was the man inline to step into the minority party leader's position. The position created is unconstitutional, however, that does not seem to bother Ms. Pelosi, or anyone else for that matter....why???? Is everyone being blinded by some sort of film over their eyes, is there something in the water you are drinking??? What has happened to The American People????

Ugh I hope she spills everything she has. Newt is a lying sack of ....Well...we all know what he is. I don't know why he plays the good guy. Ditching your cancer ridden wife, getting sanctioned for ethics violations, he sure sounds like a swell guy.

Speaking of lying sacks...how is Nancy doing?
03:09 PM on 01/22/2012
She seems to be about par.....LOL She needs to remember when you point one finger out, there are three pointing right back at you....have you wondered lately what it is like to be sitting in a room with her and Congressman Clyburn??? She twirled him around the mulberry bush so fast I bet the berries are still flying in the air.....LOL

What an awful woman she is! Slyly threatening to dish privately communicated information on a candidate. And if you really believe she was talking about public information, then why is her office back-tracking like mad on this today?

Newt is right - this was an early Christmas present.

Its against House ethic rules to let out information in any investigation and any public information is already out. Nobody cares!

Pelosi is fighting to remind her constituents she is still relevant!!!! What Ms. Pelosi has not realized is she is despensible in the progressive scheme of things, where she believes she is a critical player.

Go Nancy! I can't wait to witness this GOP flavor of the month going down.
Interesting to read the GOP trolls comments trashing Nancy - as if she were running for President.
The stupidity of GOP voters continues to amaze me.

Like the way Palin is trashed on this site? A person who is also not running for President?
02:45 PM on 01/22/2012
Why should it... Dems voted for him too !

Let's think about these two hucksters:

Pelosi, if you knew he was such a "dirt"y person and was an ethically challenged person - WHY did you sit on a couch with him and do a PSA/commercial?

Gingrich, if sitting for that PSA/Commercial was the single dumbest thing you've done in years, were you lying on that PSA/Commercial?

Couple of hacks who rely on the hope that their electorate remains dumb.

Such a ridiculous post. Such blind defending of hypocrisy is the primary root of our problems as a nation. Both sides have people like you to rely on, it's very sad.

I don't like Newt AT ALL; however, I am stunned that Nancy Pelosi is threatening to reveal confidential information that she learned during an ethics case against Newt. Isn't revealing this information an ethics violation? Go for it Nancy...just remember that the house is currently controlled by the republicans!

It would be a violation of House rules and the end of her ignominious career. Anything to get her out of my line of vision please.
