Princess Charlene Wears Camel Again, Makes Us Wish For Some Color (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/05/2011 5:25 pm   Updated: 12/05/2011 5:25 pm

Dear Princess Charlene,

We know (or, we assume) that being a princess is tough. Eyes always on you, the media ready to pounce at any moment, the photo opps endless. So getting dressed is a challenge. As you said yourself in Vogue:

"Finding my fashion feet has certainly been the biggest challenge... I was literally a fish out of water. I thought it was all fun, fun, fun, and didn't give my outfit any thought."

So we imagine your plan of attack was to go simple. If you keep things basic, it's hard to mess up. Everything matches black, beige doesn't clash with anything and gray is practically fool-proof.

And yet. Cathy Horyn came out in August pen ablaze, writing that your style was "something of a flat pancake." She wasn't totally right -- but she wasn't completely off-base, either. Your light blue Armani wedding outfit was pitch-perfect, as was your fuchsia Akris gown at the Red Cross Ball and your bright print maxi dress from July.

But lately, Char, it's been black, beige and more black. And then more beige today. You could wear any color of the rainbow with that glowing skin tone and great blonde hair -- yet you choose earth tones like it's your job. Your coat at today's Christmas Village Inauguration was fine, we suppose. But with all the blah hues, you're inching closer and closer into the flat pancake zone...

We'll let it slide this time, Princess Charlene. But next time try some colors or some prints! We promise they don't bite.

Love,

HuffPost Style

I love Charleen in beige and camel. She is the most beautiful, elegant, charming royal toady.

She looks perfect, as she always does. It's the right tone of beige for her skin and it compliments her well. The coat is stunning and clearly of the highest quality money can buy.

She's a lovely girl who just needs a good stylist. She actually sort of smiled in these photos!

HEY, IF YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND A PRINCESS, YOU CAN WEAR WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT AND HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MOST FASHION EDITORS THAT WORK AT AMERICAN MAGAZINES, THEY LOOK LIKE WORN OUT HOUSE WIVES, THAT GOT UP AT THE LAST MOMENT AND HAD TO RUSG THEIR KIDS OFF TO SCHOOL, I AM A DESIGNER AND TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, SORRY YOU DON'T!

You're a designer who likes to insult and smear other people. I doubt I would like your designs considering all the negative energy you transmit.

I think she looks wonderful and I truly appreciate her going with what she likes and makes her feel comfortable rather than what the style police thinks she should wear. I love her color choices and always see an elegant and very chic woman in Princess Charlene. Her outfit for this event is appropriate for the occasion, for her audience and for these economic times.

Dear Princess Charlene: You can wear camel or whatever you wish! Ignore the people who dare to criticize your sense of style and choice of what to wear!

This Princess' style is classic - much like Grace Kelly. The writer of this article needs to take a fashion course (a writing seminar wouldn't hurt, either!).

Charlene has taste, so has Carla Bruni. Can't even compare them to anyone this side of the Atlantic!!

The princess looks elegant and chic. Understated and right for the occasion.

Whoever this Cathy Hornryn is, let her eat crow. She doesn't get subtlety.

There is NOTHING wrong with this beige camel coat. It looks so very soft and lightweight, it almost appears to be cashmere. Also, the beige allows the cut and tailoring (invisible buttons, little flap sleeves, gorgeously draped collar) to show, where a bright color might overshadow that.

This princess and her husband have enough class that they they don't have to be center-stage all the time. They are attending the event as are other guests, not trying to steal the show or upstage the event itself. Let them be, and cut the cattiness.

There are some people happy in their ''own skin.'' They certainly don't need somebody who knows absolutely nothing about them criticing their choice of cloththing. There are so many trashy dressed in Hollywood, it's refreshing to see someone ''being themselves.''
