The SuperStar Libra is a popular floating resort. The waters are crowded with sea-worthy vessels, so to make planning easier, we've done all the prep work for a cruise vacation. As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on cruise ships, here is a tip sheet offering all the key information one could ever need to know about the SuperStar Libra.
Destination

sails to such destinations in Asia as Malaysia and Thailand on one- to three-night cruises. Previously, it sailed in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Adriatic seas. Past itineraries also included India and Taiwan.
Passenger Ship
The SuperStar Libra is a midsize ship 709 feet long and 107 feet wide. It can carry about 1,472 passengers and a crew of 680. The ship is popular with fun-loving cruisers who like to gamble and party. Although it is marketed primarily to Asians, English is universally spoken by its crew members. The Libra prides itself on providing authentic Asian touches.
Special Features
has a pool, two hot tubs, a casino, dance club, show lounge, fitness center, sports deck, beauty salon, Internet cafe, karaoke lounge and golf driving range. Asian passengers are especially appreciative of such touches as tatami rooms and authentic Chinese, Japanese and Indian dishes. The crew gets very high marks for friendliness and attentiveness.
Accommodations
The SuperStar Libra boasts
. The ship offers a variety of cabin categories, including inside and ocean-view, deluxe ocean-view and a variety of suites. All staterooms are equipped with a shower, telephone, hair dryer and TV. The inside stateroom has between 103 and 169 square feet of space, depending on configuration. Ocean-view cabins range from 103 to 128 square feet, while suites range from 171 to 384 square feet of living room.
Cost
, depending on such factors as itinerary, cabin selection and date of travel. On the SuperStar Libra, passengers can take a one-night cruise out of Penang, Malaysia, for as little as $29.50 if they are willing to stay on the ship without cabin accommodations. A three-night cruise from Phuket, Thailand, to Krabi, Thailand, in the Executive Suite is $1,909. Unlike most cruise ships, the SuperStar Libra has a strict no-tipping policy.
Excursions
One SuperStar Libra passenger said the
"were excellent & reasonably priced. However, on one bus there were passengers who had their bags stolen."
explored Haikou, China, and said, "Star arranges three different shore excursions for you and it will cost you about HK$300 [$38 U.S.] per person (including a lunch). Nothing special but they are worth [it]. But language may be a big problem."
Dining Experience
Passengers on the
can choose from a variety of dining options, including: the Blue Lagoon snack bar; Taipan restaurant; Mariners buffet; Lickety Splits ice cream shop; and the Ocean Palace for Chinese fare. The Four Seasons and Taj on the Bay are the ship's two main dining rooms; both serve a rotating menu that features Chinese, Indian, Thai and Malaysian dishes. The Saffron buffet near the pool on deck nine is a popular choice with Libra passengers seeking a casual meal. Two Trees Restaurant costs an extra $12 per person.
Maiden Voyage
The ship was originally built for Norwegian Cruise Line as the Seaward, and made its
in 1988. T. A Finnish shipyard built the vessel for Norwegian as a passenger liner, which renamed it the Sea in 1997. The ship was acquired by Star Cruises in 2005 and renamed the SuperStar Libra.
