Keanu Reeves Gives Up Subway Seat, New Yorkers Don't Seem To Notice (VIDEO)

There's sad Keanu, there's happy Keanu and now, gentleman Keanu?

The top post on Reddit this Friday is a video of Keanu Reeves kindly giving up his seat to a woman on the Q train last summer, proving himself to be an upstanding citizen.

It's an interesting case study in celebrity-on-the-subway sociology. How do New Yorkers react to such a famous person joining the daily commute? They don't. For the most part, the straphangers don't seem to pay attention to the Matrix star. Do they not recognize him? Are they just trying to play it cool?

One Redditor has a theory: "They are probably all busy recording him in secret. Just look at how he keeps glancing around. He seems a little uneasy. Either that or he's just watching out for Smith."

Yes, probably.

I live in Chicago and I use to catch the Express Bus downtown and take it to the south side of the city. Let me say, that was a long ride and traffic is always backed up for extended periods of time at certain points in the city. To take that route 5 days a week and be expected to yield my seat every time a woman was standing up is UNREASONABLE. Then to assume that some man is a bad guy or that he don't have manners is just absurd. But you know what I did observe quite often? Young women not giving their seats to elderly women even though they were sitting in senior seats. And I always and I mean always saw guys give their seats to elderly women.

Many guys just don't give their seats up like they use to because more women are unappreciative, rude, and overly entitled.

Awww, how nice ! But, if he offered me the seat, I would say, no thanks, and sat on his lap, lol

He was merely caught being Canadian. Surely he was then beaten up by six cops and deported for subverting American culture and values.

You may be surprised. A lot of people in New York don't give up their seats as often anymore, even to the senior citizens. We might glance but don't really pay any attention to it. Keanu was nice though. I carry a large bag usually and i don't always get offered a seat.

He needs to come to Chicago and lead by example because I see more women giving up their seats than men in this city.

Oh snap! he was there right under (or above) their noses! I wish I could catch a celeb on the train. It's such a rarity.................

I can bet most people didn't believe it was him. No one would be expecting him to be riding the subway, so I can totally see how they'd "think" it was him, but not believe it. Then again, NYers are famous for not giving a hoot about the famous.

Good for them & him. It's how life should be.

A young dude giving up his seat to a woman on a NYC subway? You'd better believe that's news.

BS.....I see it every day

Why is this a story? It shows the man has manners and is considerate. His action should not be worthy of a story because this kind of behavior should happen all the time and not be something out of the ordinary.

Nice to see a celebrity assume a very normal average life, at least in this event and choices.

A guy giving up his seat is news. How often does that happen nowadays?
06:33 PM on 12/10/2011
True. A guy acting like a gentleman. In NY!

hopefully it will inspire others... no matter who you are, where you come from or what you have, i doesnt cost anything to have manners.

The fact that he catches a subway and doesn't insist on a limo or Hummer with his entourage confirms the solid (and widespread) reputation he has in the industry as a good guy. Standing for that woman is something most men don't do, so further kudos to him.

What's funny is that so many people see this as novel when it's par for the course to anyone who had good parents.

I used to look around to keep from falling asleep. Something about the sound of a train that is very soothing.
