New Museum Ups Ticket Prices For Carsten Hoeller Show

New Museum Increases Ticket Prices

The New Museum's current exhibition, 'Experience' by Carsten Hoeller, is drawing more visitors than ever to the 35-year old institution, with a daily average of 1,700 a day. Are record numbers becoming more culturally curious? Or are they just nostalgic for recess? Either way the 'Experience' is going to cost you; ticket prices have risen from $12 to $16 for the exhibition.

The exhibition creates a playful, audience-participatory experience complete with a 102-foot slide and giant tank of salinated water for you to skinny dip in. (The museum changed the rules regarding the 'Giant Psycho Tank' soon after it opened, limiting the naked floating experience to one naked visitor at a time.) The exhibition is a sensory laboratory, a wonderland on overload that elicits feelings of childhood, safety and doubt. “Due to unprecedented attendance for the Carsten Hoeller exhibition and increased staffing needs, we have increased admission prices,” a museum spokesperson said.

'Experience' surely is a memorable experience for museum-goers and illustrates the current trend of interactive art known as relational aesthetics. This topsy-turvy tour will be open until January 15. The museum has said the raise in price is most likely not permanent.
