Rachel Crow's Shocking Elimination From 'X Factor'

"X Factor" is no stranger to drama, but Thursday night's drawn-out elimination between 13-year-old Rachel Crow and aspiring Usher-to-be Marcus Canty was gut-wrenching. Ranked at the bottom two (with this being Canty's third week in a row), each contestant delivered -- Canty singing "I'm Going Down" by Rose Royce, and Crow giving a deeply felt, deeply emotional performance of "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James that seemed beyond her years.

But the drama started out like so: both LA Reid and Simon Cowell loyally stuck with their mentees, with Simon unsurprisingly being the most obnoxious about it. "You're going home Marcus," he dismissed. So then it was up to the ladies. Paula Abdul stuck with her girl and chose Crow, and, for a moment, it seemed almost certain that Crow would pass on through to the semi-finals. But that's when the camera panned to a sobbing, seriously distraught Nicole Scherzinger. Cue hysteria. Cue stuttering. She couldn't make a decision. "I know how it feels and I adore both of you... I have to go to deadlock," Nicole said, even if that meant she voiced out loud that she was sending Crow home, to even out the voting. How does that make sense? Why was Rachel, a mere teenager with a ridiculously cherubic face, consoling Nicole over her decision?

So enter Deadlock, which takes the power out of the judges' control and hands it back to the original voters. It felt strange to move forward with a decision based on voting that had happened before the survival song performances, but so be it. A mystery hand named "John" gave host Steve Jones a piece of paper that revealed that Crow had gotten the least number of votes from Wednesday's performance, and that she would be going home. Even Jones looked surprised. But then things got really messy. Crow fell to the ground and gave a death cry, then could be overheard telling her mother to "promise" her things would be alright. Simon and LA rushed onto stage, but Nicole held back at judges' table to sob into her hands even more, with Paula consoling her as if she had been the booted contestant. (When Nicole did dare to tread onstage, she was instantly booed).

It was all confusing and emotional and didn't make sense, but somehow, even though she got sent home, Rachel Crow emerged the winner of the night. When asked by Jones for her final thoughts, Crowe succinctly wrapped it up like so: "I just love you so much everybody for voting for me, even though you didn't."

"I hope this is not my ending, you know what, I know it's not."

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article said that Marcus Canty had been in the bottom two twice; this was in fact his third time. The song "I'm Going Down," is originally by the band Rose Royce, not Mary J. Blige, who covered it in 1994.

I watched the four remaining finalists last night and quite frankly I was bored. Re-hashed Usher from Marcus Canty (and a strange disco song for his second performance); re-hashed Beyonce/Mariah Carey from Melanie; and same old-same old from Chris Rene. Josh is the only remaining contestant who is fresh and interesting. Rachel Crow would have made a welcome addition to the finalists, but thanks to spineless (possibly spiteful) Nicole that was not possible. I predict X-Factor will be dead in the water by next season, thanks to Nicole.

Marcus wasnt better then Rachel no! But it was DEADLOCK and the votes where in his favor so if you dont like that she went home then maybe you should of voted or told people to vote, its not necoles fault she let america decide and they did! so who ever is mad at her you are so full of it grow up its a show and she did her job! get over it already people and stop blaming marcus and necole!!!! just so stupied how people want to be mad at someone for doing what they thought was right and not waiting to send either home. OMG!

i missed the ending of the show and i just watched the clips here, ok it was a deadlock people and both are good! that one singer who was safe chris he is not great and im sorry he should be in the bottom and going home simon said it right, but back on Rachel yes she is young and maybe shouldnt have been on the show, but the way she acted fallen out and crying like that was just over the top it showed me she is very spoiled what she said to her mom( you promised me) i took it as her mom said you will win and no one is better then you, this little 12yr old seem to be different when things dont go her way. thats just my thoughts on it and like it or disagree thats how i see it!

Like children much? Jealous much?

That little 13 year old has more talent in her baby finger than anyone criticizing her on these threads.

Ihn12...To say Rachell is spoiled is a large leap. As for crying did you see Nichole cry and Rachell comfort her. She thought she was taking the easy way out...she knew as did anyone who watched the show that
Rachell won the sing off. She even said it...
Marcus will have no career...watch and see. Rachell is already talking to Dsiney!!!

GOOD FOR RACHEL im happy for her not taken that from her at all wish her the best of luck! like i said that you can like what i said or disagree its not going to change how i feel about the out come! the child seemed very spoiled to me sorry..

On the x-factor the judges are paid to make these difficult decisions because their dealing with real people and their hope to win this. Emotions are high, and the judges should decide without hysteria like Nicole did not. Rachel was devasted, and Nicole was just uncontrolable in her own choice. Nicole needs to go. I don't think they should have a deadlock. The judges should be able to make their decisions, not no one else.I don't think I will watch this next year with Nicole on there.I like her music, but she is not cut out for this.

Why is it so "shocking" and "terrible"? This is for a 5 million dollar recording contract. In other words a star quality, totally relevant to today's market artist. Rachel is great for Disney or Nickelodeon or something along those lines, where by the way, you will find a lot of young stars with her talent and personality. It was the right call with out a doubt. She is young and will do just fine there, and great for her. Having said that, this should be about finding a potential superstar and I think we have a much better chance of finding one with the four contestants left. They are all great in in their own right, with their own styles and with a bunch of talent for sure. Gd luck to all!

thats why there should be an age limit--she is just a kid.
07:38 AM on 12/12/2011
Marcus should have been voted off Rachel is a much better singer and all round entertainer, even though she is only 13 years old.she didnt deserve being sent home nicole should be ashamed at what she did to her.

All the judges are competing with each other.Crow belted out that song like the GREAT RED HOT MAMA"s.OF YESTERYEAR.That was big singing in a class by itself. She was amazing.Shame on Nicole playing kid games with her bull shit crying (more attention seeking) Sorry Simon will lose a ton of money because that Amaro kid will probably win.Yes her voice is great BUT there are soo many of that type of voice around (Mariah-Whitney-Celine etc.) We have enough of there albums , why would
we buy the generic when for the same price we could buy the original? The boys are good for short term pumping-up the crowd but who wants to buy there music and listen to it for years.

Exactly, Diane! I couldn't have said it any better. Definitely hit the nail on the head, especially your comment about Crow belting out Etta James classic oldie "Blind." What a phenomenal voice and performance. I will buy any CDs and go to any concert Rachel has.

She is refreshing, different, great vocals and stage presence. She did Etta proud!

Had LA not said to Rachel prior to voting that he was not supposed to tell that Hollywood was buzzing all around her, Voters might have not thought that "Oh well she already has a career to make money so lets vote for someone else who might need it. If he was not supposed to say it he should have not said it. It made people vote for others thinking she was okay. Sadly she is one of the best. Nicole I am sure will not have a job next year on the show since Simon hires. She made a fool of herself. Heck if Paula can be objective why can't Nicole? The fix was in when LA opened his mouth the day of voting!

And somewhere in the world, another child d.ies of hunger.

Get some perspective. This show is meaningless.

Why even be a judge Nicole Scherzinger if you aren't going to judge because you've "Been there before" that's ludicrous! She deserved the boos! I imagine that whenever her contract with this show is up that she will get an actual record deal ... good luck to the little girl cause she'll need it.
04:20 AM on 12/12/2011
Newsflash. They will ALL get eliminated except one. There can only be one winner.
