Andrew Breitbart, Conservative Activist, Steps Down From GOProud After Rick Perry's 'Strong' Ad Fallout

Andrew Breibart

First Posted: 12/11/11 01:23 PM ET Updated: 12/11/11 03:42 PM ET

The fallout continues from Rick Perry's controversial "Strong" ad -- and from the gay Republican group GOProud's blistering criticism of Perry’s pollster and aide, Tony Fabrizio in response. Conservative activist and publisher Andrew Breitbart has now stepped down from the GOProud advisory council in protest, raising the question as to whether other high-profile council members, such as honorary co-chair Ann Coulter and Fox News commentator and conservative author Margaret Hoover, will follow suit.

Breitbart cited the “outing” of Fabrizio, in what he described as an act of retaliation for Perry’s ad attacking President Obama on “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal as his reason for stepping down, though GOProud’s leaders maintain they believed Fabrizio was openly gay and that they’d never reveal someone’s undeclared homosexuality.

Said Breitbart:

On numerous occasions I have spoken with Jimmy LaSalvia and Chris Barron of the significant impact the practice of “outing” had in my evolution from the political left to the right. I was under the absolute impression that both agreed. I have a zero tolerance attitude toward the intentional infliction of vocational and family harm by divulging the details of an individual’s sexual orientation as a weapon of political destruction. As an “Advisory Board member” I was not consulted on this extreme and punitive act.

But GOProud contends:

We would never intentionally out anyone. However, in the case of Tony Fabrizio, top pollster and chief strategist for the Presidential campaign of Texas Governor Rick Perry, we did not believe there was any question about his sexual orientation – nor did the reporters who called us to ask about his involvement in Perry’s anti-gay campaign strategy. Questions about an individual’s sexual orientation should obviously be answered by that individual.

GOProud didn’t address having used an ugly slur to describe Fabrizio, with LaSalvia having tweeted “faggots who line their pockets with checks from antigay homophobes.” It’s also questionable as to how “out” the group could have believed Fabrizio to have been since there were no previously published reports of the high-profile pollster acknowledging his sexual orientation.

The ever dishonest Andrew Breitbart says--

"On numerous occasions I have spoken with Jimmy LaSalvia and Chris Barron of the significant impact the practice of “outing” had in my evolution from the political left to the right... I have a zero tolerance attitude toward the intentional infliction of vocational and family harm by divulging the details of an individual’s sexual orientation as a weapon of political destruction."

WHAT A LIAR!!!!!

So what was Breitbarts whole trip about following Rep Weiner online, and posting nudy i-photos of him all over the media?

That was not even a FULL YEAR ago!

Do people (journalists especially) EVER call Andrew out on just how terribly inconsistent or dishonest he is?

It seems that a liar like Breitbart can only continue his work by relying on one thing... the fact that most Americans wont remember what happened just yesterday.

Still, I would like to hear Breitbart answer the question... why does he SUDDENLY have a purported "zero tolerance attitude" about inflicting harm on another through divulging details of a person's sexual life, when that very same practice was at the center of one of his most successful political smear campaigns?

Andrew Breitbart is a liar, a fraud and a deranged sociopath who gets WAAAAY too much money, power and influence from his political sugar-daddies.

But his stepping down from GOProud over this matter totally illustrates how disingenuous his feigned support for GOProud is, and why he REALLY became a board member.

BREITBART IS ENTIRELY HOMOPHOBIC, and has a history of using his position to actively incite homophobic rage.

Look at his smear campaign against Kevin Jennings... the whole thing was a deliberate (and dishonest) orchestration of the most horrendous homophobic fantasies, manipulated in such a way as to elicit irrational, homophobic anger in Breitbarts OWN audience.

Outside of their own self-loathing, anti-gay rhetoric, GOProud should be entirely ashamed for having ever associated with that bigot.

Breitbart only PRETENDED to be gay-friendly for two reasons.

1) He is devoted to the republican goal of voting out Obama at all costs. His reason to put his brand on GOProud was nothing more than an attempt to coopt gay votes for the republicans.

2) Through GOProud, Breitbart wants to destroy the struggle for LGBT rights, by using GOProud members to covertly film gay people (just like he has his followers covertly film other private citizens) so he can cut up and re-edit the footage into a big slanderous lie.

This has been Breitbarts agenda from day one, and GOProud should be ashamed for letting themselves be vulnerable to a dishonest political psychopath like Breitbart.

The irony is that Rick Perry has long been known to frequent rent boys himself. Whenever a GOPer resorts to gaybashing, it isn't long before you learn they themselves are gay living in the closet.

"embarrassed" to be Christian? When I was a kid i wanted to be Christian. This is a Christian country, wherever I go there is lights, trees, and celebration. So it has mellowed a bit over the years and some different words are used so everyone can feel welcome. But "embarrassed?" Dude, you have no chance.

For a man who is living a 24/7 lie, is wholly amoral about executions (even those likely innocent), will do absolutely anything for an extra vote or a few more bucks in his coffers, and relentlessly casts judgments upon and encourages hatred and intolerance towards those who practice so-called unacceptable sexual acts in the open which he practices in private, you have to hand it to him, Perry is doing an amazing job of holding it all together, all under the guise of being a "good Christian." What a piece of work.

I love Rick Perry. He just keeps getting dumber and dumber. He's like a guy doing an absurd caricature of Bush on a sketch comedy show, but he's real.

I don't like Perry at all, but you should never call a human being worthless. NO human being is worthless. Isn't this what you have been fighting against? Being marginalized as a human being?
Shame on you.

you should never call another human being worthless. Who are you to say that? God? All people are valuable. Is this not what you have been fighting for? To not be marginalized as a human being? For shame.

When will the entire LGBT community learn that the Dems are currently the lesser of the 2 evils? The GOP will never have your best interests at heart, not unless you are the CEO of a giant multinational corporation that contributes millions to a super-PAC that supports them.

Maybe when President Obama's position is not to the right of Vice President Cheney's? How's that for a start?

Maybe when it's the job of a group, a group I wonder if you even consider yourself a member of, should be asked to ignore the words of a hero of the president. Justice delayed is justice denied.

What is it about the phrase "Republicans don't like you" that the GOProud folks don't understand? Are they so pathetically delusional as to think that Republican "values" voters (these are the most reliable Republican voters) are actually comfortable with them and their sexual orientation? They never have been, they never will be. Pushing back on the "gay agenda" and on "abortionists" are the two things that all Republican "values" voters all agree on. Being gay and being a Republican really, really doesn't work. They're very, very welcome in the Democratic party.

Yes, and they do more to solve that problem, ie young Evangelicals are not nearly as anti-gay as their parents or grandparents, than anyone else. Because to know us is to love us.

Yes, in fact Nicholas Kristoff did an excellent piece about younger Evangelicals in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/31/opinion/sunday/kristof-evangelicals-without-blowhards.html?_r=1&ref=nicholasdkristof

Seriously? I don't know what I'm talking about?! Seriously? Who proposed and pushed for passage of the Defense of Marriage Act? - Republicans. Who wants to "fix," gays, and "pray away the gay"? - Republicans. Who is constantly talking about fighting the "gay agenda" in this country? - Republicans. Who is at the forefront of trying to repeal "marriage equality" in every state that has made it into law? - Republicans. If you seriously think that gays are welcome in the Republican party and will not be discriminated against by a Republican President, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell you. And one more thing...I'm straight and I have tons of gay friends (I work in the arts and social work), and there's not one of them who is a Republican or would even consider being one - they know who their enemy is. Wow, denial is not a river in Egypt, no - denial flows mightily in the few gay Republicans who think that Republicans welcome them.
