Louis C.K.'s Reddit Q & A: 23 Best Answers From IamA Session (PICTURES)

First Posted: 12/12/11 05:34 PM ET Updated: 01/12/12 06:36 PM ET

Louis C.K. did a live question and answer session on Reddit on Monday afternoon, and by doing so, continues his mission to be as accessible and honest with his audience as he possibly can. C.K., who self-released his newest stand-up comedy special "Live at the Beacon Theatre" this weekend through his website, seemed game to answer a variety of questions directly from his fans.

In the chat, which was on Reddit's IamA section (as in, "I am a [blank]. Ask me anything"), hundreds of Reddit users asked the comedian and "Louie" auteur whatever they wanted, and he answered with typically unfiltered candor. Although he did not answer every question, it was a nonetheless candid and captivating talk with a comedian at the top of his game. For instance, did you know that he does not consider himself an atheist? Or how he responds to groupies who try to have sex with him? Or that he can't count how many black T-shirts he owns?

We found 23 of our favorite answers that Louis gave his fans. For the full chat, click over to the thread on Reddit.

(As always with Louis C.K., the language he uses is heartfelt, hilarious and often NSFW.)

This man is responsible for one of the greatest shows on TV. It's like he takes the form of a 21-and-a-half minute long sitcom and goes... yeah, well, maybe... whatever.

Louie appears very unassuming and loosely improvised. And I think he is, but he's also one of the most intelligent and sharp witted comics working. Producing his very cool "Louie CK" show, which seems casual and probably somewhat autobiographical must require laser-sharp instincts and vision. Tthe episode w/Joan Rivers went beyond comedy to what I would consider soul-bearing "Richard Pryor" levels.....He may not be for everyone, but this dude is damn funny.

Totally agreed. The Joan Rivers episode is one fantastic piece of television.

I think you'd be surprised how scripted his and other comedians' shows are. I once saw both the early and late shows on a Margaret Cho tour and despite the apparent relaxed delivery and tangential comments....both shows were exact in movement and word for word. Amazing. The best of comedians are also great actors.

I think you're right. I've seen his stand-up from different nights and although he sounds fresh, it's probably due mostly to inspired writing. However, in interviews with him and others who've appeared on his series, I got the impression that he's pretty flexible and allows his well-casted guests to bring their characters to life with some freedom to interpret. No doubt at least some of this is scripted, but the remarkable spontaneity seems to grow from a strong vision and confidence in his material. As you mention, it doesn't hurt that, like Pryor and other memorable comedians, he's a skilled actor....and in the case of his FX show, evidently writer, director and editor, too.
