Meghan McCain Condemns Lowe's For Pulling 'All-American Muslim' Ads (VIDEO)

Meghan Mccain

First Posted: 12/13/11 03:56 PM ET Updated: 12/14/11 11:44 AM ET

Meghan McCain condemned Lowe's for pulling advertising from TLC's "All-American Muslim," a new reality show about Muslims living in Dearborn, Michigan.

The home improvement chain is one of several businesses that canceled its commercials during the show, after complaints from the Florida Family Association. The decision has been widely criticized as discriminatory.

McCain echoed those sentiments on Tuesday's "Now With Alex Wagner." The MSNBC contributor called the developments "the most heartbreaking story I think I've read in a long time."

"This show is about anti-discrimination for Muslims in America, Muslims living in Michigan and what they go through on a daily basis," she said, "and Lowe's is now rescinding their advertising, basically doing the same thing that Muslims have to deal with on a daily basis. It's horrible."

Every member of the panel appeared to agree, calling the decision "down right bigotry" and "the most weak-kneed thing that an American company has done to fellow Americans."

As a home repair expert I can say without a doubt that Lowe's beats Home depot for selection and available professionals to answer homeowner questions. Home Depot has been going down hill for about eight-ten years, and I refuse to shop there unless it is absolutely the only choice. Lowe's has proven that they do not want to partake of the dumbing down of Americans, in attempt to garner acceptance of Muslims by the sympathizers who would hand these Muslims the keys to our cities if allowed. I can agree with this stance and applaud Lowe's for having the fortitude to stand up for what they believe.

The whole idea of the show is that these are Americans too. There was a time when Catholics were treated with indignity, and often Judeo Christians still are, probably by intolerant xenophobes like you.

Oh yea.... http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/xenophobe

Xenophobia is an inappropriate term in this instance. While their religion or culture does not worry me, the progressive's attempts to garner acceptance to entire race based on the actions of a few does. I judge people on a individual basis, not by stereotypes on TV or in real life. I choose not to watch because I hate reality shows. However, if I did watch reality shows, I would not watch this show simply because it is merely an attempt to undermine what we read in the papers and national TV on a daily basis. Those facts are there, and should be weighed for the truth that they are.
Wariness, skepticism, reluctance, and suspicion are all fitting terms. Xenophobia is not.

I didn't really like Lowes to begin with because of their lack of selection and lack of people to help. But now, I'll be sure to do all my home improvement shopping at Home Depot and not set foot into a Lowes again...ever. The bigotry in America against people who happen to hold a certain religion (and the fear mongering about Sharia Law) is disgusting. It's like discriminating against Jews because Orthodox Jews hold strictly to the Jewish Law. Those who are commenting on here with bigoted and hate-filled remarks are a large part of the problem. We all need to learn to get along. That is what America is supposedly about...the freedom to hold whatever religion (or no religion) you wish and still work with others who have different beliefs. The bigots on here would love to see everyone as Evangelical Christians...and if they're not, claim that they're not "real 'Muricans.'"

Christ died for your sins. That will be the end result on an endless loop running on and on in perpetuity. No need for proof or an explanation of the origin of specific phrasing developed in harmony with scientific discovery and an open mind toward beliefs being based on, as well as interpreted by a movable object, not stationary or static but constantly moving and adapting.

Lowes made a bad decision. Caving to a tiny bunch of bigots and offending seven million Muslim Americans and millions more who don't appreciate bigotry. The more brought into the latter category the better.
02:42 PM on 12/30/2011
There are about seven million people of middle eastern descent in America. Are they supposed to be ashamed of their birth and where they live? Tell Lowes how you feel. Personally, I hate the store because there are never any cashiers.

Muslim is not a dirty word.

Oh Meghan...
Why waste time with Lowe's when the real bigots are that Florida Fam. Asc.
When it comes down to it, Lowe's can advertise where it wants.
It seems silly for people to try to bully a store into reinvesting ad money for a show they pulled ads from. It's almost as if people are holding them more accountable for being non-pc than the real bigots are for being real bigots.

I think that's exactly what I said...Loews can advertise where it wants. When people threaten boycotts and such if Loews doesn't renew their advertising on the show American Muslim, I call that bullying because those people threaten Loews public image for their own self-centered reasons, even though they will say it's for the greater good. Who said I agree with Sharpton?

The Florida Family Association, which started an e-mail petition to scare advertisers from the show, has the Orwellian slogan, "Defending American Values." THEIR idea of American values includes ridiculing Muslims who pledge allegiance to . . American values. From their anti-show campaign letter:

"One of the most troubling scenes occurred at the introduction of the program when a Muslim police officer stated 'I really am American. No ifs and or buts about it.' "

Yes, very troubling, if you believe the cop is only saying that, or being quoted saying that, so as to lower your Christian defenses. What happened to loving your neighbor as yourself? And even your enemies?

We seem to have short memories here, and view people who look different.....well..as being too furrin...! It's just a part of Manifest Destiny....when those very same Christians as the lovely Florida group were ranting and raving over Japanese and Indians and Irish who called America home... Instead of the Muslim cop declaring that he is American......I think the Florida Family Association should prove that they are HUMANS..!

Yea, I agree.
Really scary that 99.9 % of the Muslims lived here in America relatively in peace until 9+11.
Now they are all suddenly turned into tear wrists?
Yea, I say BS.
It's all fear mongering for no reason.

There's nothing there.
