Emma Stone Said Spider-Man Character Is Very Different From Kirsten Dunst

When it was announced that Emma Stone would be playing the Spidey's leading lady, everyone happily assumed she would be reprising Peter Parker's red-haired love interest, Mary-Jane Watson. But when we found out that Stone's locks would be blonde (gasp!) instead of her signature red, we began to realize that this "Spider-Man" is a horse of a different color, too.

Now we know that Stone will be playing Peter Parker's first romance, Gwen Stacy. And while the details on the super hero flick are few and far between, The Vancouver Sun got some juicy tidbits from Stone that will put all this MJ-Gwen confusion to rest.

Stone said her character “couldn’t be any more different than Mary Jane,” who was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the films.

"(Gwen) grew up on the Upper East Side (of New York), had a very stable family — a daddy’s girl,” she said. “Her father was the police chief. . . . She’s the oldest in her family (and) she has younger brothers. She is very responsible and very protective of her family and she loves science; she is a valedictorian. She has her whole life planned out for her and then she gets to know Peter. . . . They teach each other so much, because they’re from two so totally different backgrounds and experiences. . . . He’s never really known sit-down family dinners with siblings and parents, and what it’s like to grow up in one house your whole life, and be under the thumb of your father."

It's uncertain which narrative the film will take from Stacy's drama-filled life. In the comic, her character was actually slain by the Green Goblin, shocking the comic book community of 1973.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters July 3, 2012.
