Rosie O'Donnell: Michele Bachmann Should Use 'Gaydar Gun' On Her Husband Marcus

First Posted: 12/14/11 02:05 PM ET Updated: 12/14/11 02:05 PM ET

In addition to facing allegations that his Christian clinic endorses so-called "ex-gay" reparative therapy, Marcus Bachmann has been the subject of intense media speculation over his own sexuality.

Rosie O'Donnell made her feelings on the subject known during an episode of "The Rosie Show" this week, during which the talk show host tested the reliability of the "gaydar gun," a novelty toy which proclaims to be able to identify the sexuality of its targets.

At first, O'Donnell pointed the gun at a male couple seated in the audience, noting, "I knew you guys were gay." She then quipped, "I sent one to Michele Bachmann. I told her to aim it at her husband and see what happens. Just saying...have you heard him talk? Dear Lord!"

Quote from Steel Magnolias when a gay guy was asked how you know who is gay.... "All gay men are named Rick, Mark or Steve..." Point that gun at Rick Perry or Rick Santorum. Woop Whoop!!! Who knew?

Rick's emissions are very low frequency, as he has been flying under the radar with his sexuality since the age of consent.

'She then quipped, "I sent one to Michele Bachmann. I told her to aim it at her husband and see what happens. Just saying...have you heard him talk? Dear Lord!"'

Rosie, while I don't car for the Bauchman's or their positionality regarding the lives of LGBTQ folk, It's ironic that you used a joke and have made statements about Marcus and his sexuality using sterotypes about how 'gays' sound or how one could use 'gaydar' to find the 'gays' after getting hot ounder the collar with Letterman for making a joke about your gender presentation earlier this week.

If you can make these kind of jokes you'd better grow some thicker skin... It works both ways gurl...

You don't think that she, like most people in the spotlight, has developed thick skin over the years?

If she had then she wouldn't have responded the way that she has. Look, she just lashed out at Letterman last week and this week she's on a roll making fun of Marcus a man that even though his wife is running on a disturbing ticket, he lack the same access to the media to be able to respond the way that she has.

All things aren't equal in this instance...

I can see your point, but it is also important to note that gay men and women sometimes speak in stereotypical terms of our own community as well, just as other minorities do of theirs. But we can and get away with it, just as others do. It does not equate to quite the same thing as true disdain for the person from someone who sees them as unacceptable.

And I see you point as well; however, in this case, Marcus denies that he identifies as 'gay.' The concern I have is, is that it weakens that case that many of us make when we resist bullying that occurs based on perceptions.

We can't on the one hand say that we're categorically agaisnt this type of tactic when the targets are chhildren who are percieved as gay and then ignore it because we either assume that the target is family or simply detest that person based on some perception that there exists some internalized homophobia that leads them to do disturbing things to LGBTQ folk.

She didn't appear to take too kindly to the slight and I doubt that even if it came from someone who identifies as LGBTQ that she would take it in kind.
