'The Dictator' Trailer: Sacha Baron Cohen's New Movie (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/14/11 09:05 AM ET Updated: 12/14/11 05:33 PM ET

Sacha Baron Cohen is a brave, brave man.

He's already goofed the world with his characters on "Da Ali G Show," and caused cultural ruckuses with "Borat" and "Bruno," so now he's taking the next logical step: wading into the most sensitive of international politics. And if one man can spoof the brutal regime of a dictator -- and somehow even make him likable -- it's got to be this lanky British mastermind.

Enter "The Dictator," Baron Cohen's latest film. He plays a North African dictator named General Aladeen, a combination of such deposed despots as Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi who gets sent to the United States, and from the look of this first trailer, relies less on a culture clash than exaggerating the awful things a power hungry, egomaniacal dictator might do to make sure he holds on tight to his rule. And, remarkably, it's hilarious.

Also featuring in the film are Megan Fox (who we see in the trailer) and Anna Faris, who plays a love interest that opens his eyes to new things -- like organic groceries.

If you don't care for Sacha Baron Cohen's work, then you might be more interested in his brother, Simon's work as a parapsychological expert. I'm thinking that there is such a thing as a 'genius gene' cause that has to be no coincidence. Simon works on the theoretical end while Sacha creates the social experiments. All for the glory of science.

That's just my theory, and you are free to dispute it.

1. Your genious gene theory is wrong. It is a concoction of willpower, openmindedness, opportunity, physical appearance, character makeup, and creativity

Sacha Baron Cohen, a.k.a. Ali G has made a lot of money by play up the steroetype of various ethnic groups and nationalities.

I would love to see him play an Isr aeli stereotype or depict the leaders of that Mid dle East nat ion.

He looks like a Castro / Noriega / Michael Jackson hybrid in the photo.

You know what's funny are some many of the previous entries HERE being so serious about a comedian-veering off into international affairs. Now that is funny.

Is Huffpo paid for this never ending flow of praise for this painfully UNfunny comedian?
12:03 AM on 12/18/2011
Sure see alot of him on this site. When will this dud posing as a comedian quietly go away?

You know, the people who post on comedy articles to complain that they feel the comedian isn't funny, are merely adverting their own lack of a sense of humor.

We get it, you don't think anything is funny. Go be miserable and serious somewhere else.
08:28 PM on 12/17/2011
Why the bitterness? Didn't realize there were so many SBC apologists on Huffpo. There is much beauty and humor in the world all of it exclusive of Cohen's lame, transparent attempts at humor clearly written for 4th graders from Topeka.
12:06 AM on 12/18/2011
But Cohen isn't funny...

and atleast you are entitled to your own opinion, no matter how closed it is.

Would there be any controversy if an Arab was constantly playing roles making fun of Jews???
06:28 PM on 12/17/2011
Something tells me yes. You're lucky your post wasn't taken off Huffpo for even considering such an inconceivable concept.
09:47 PM on 12/17/2011
Have you ever read their newspapers? Their cartoons were inspired by "Der Sturmer". Since you have obviously don't know about it, you should realise there is no controversy. Anyway, the Arabs make more fun of their of their dictators and tyrants than the Jews.

As an American who does believe that Israel has a right to exist but has overstayed it's welcome in the forefront of US foreign policy to the detriment of truly important allies like Turkey, I have to say Al Jazeera is an infinitely more substantive news source than anything I've seen out of the Isreali or US msm for that matter...
12:18 AM on 12/18/2011
And do Israeli propaganda tactics remind anyone of say.... Joseph Goebbels? Ditto the Bush administration...
12:33 PM on 12/17/2011
I hope that the political-correctness people don't chop out the good stuff, before we the general public get to see it. This is why I like independent films over mainstream. Mainstream cares about the public perception. Independent doesn't care about the public and their hangups. Case and point "KIDS". Feliz Navidad!

Anybody else think of Chaplin when the the Dictator showed up?
12:19 PM on 12/17/2011
the great dictator... it was difficult to get over the talking in the movie, so strange to watch chaplin speak i mean... but certainly the final scene, with the speech, is an utterly incredible part of cinematography
