Golden Globe Nominations 2012: Snubs and Surprises

HuffPost TV   First Posted: 12/15/11 11:16 AM ET   Updated: 12/15/11 11:41 AM ET

"Community" fans had yet another reason to be outraged as the NBC cult favorite, recently placed on indefinite hiatus, was snubbed at the Golden Globe nominations in favor of head-scratcher Best Comedy nominee "Episodes." Also conspicuously absent from that category's list of nominees: Louis CK's groundbreaking comedy series "Louie" and another much-loved NBC offering, "Parks and Rec."

In other shocking news, "Breaking Bad," widely considered to be among the best hour-long dramas ever to air on television, was snubbed in the Best Drama category, despite the fact that its most recent season was its strongest yet. At least Bryan Cranston made it into the Best Actor in a Drama category, alongside Steve Buscemi for "Boardwalk Empire," Damian Lewis for "Homeland," Jeremy Irons for "The Borgias," and Kelsey Grammar for "Boss."

Who else did the ever-inscrutable Hollywood Foreign Press Association unfairly leave out -- or unexpectedly add in -- when the awards were announced Thursday morning in a ceremony MC'ed by Sofia Vergara, Gerard Butler, Woody Harrleson and Rashida Jones? HuffPost TV's compete list of Golden Globes snubs and surprises is ahead.

SNUB: "Community" for Best TV Series, Comedy

As if "Community" hasn't taken enough hits in recent months, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association also blasphemously neglected to include the Gleendale crew in what it deemed the funniest shows of the year. But we think the HFPA needs to revisit this season's "Remedial Chaos Theory" episode and pick a new timeline. Besides "Modern Family" and this season's breakout hit "New Girl," the rest of the Best Comedy honorees this year miss the mark: "Enlightened," "Episodes," and "Glee," which has its rabid Gleekdom to thank for the nod since the musical dramedy seems to be getting worse by the episode.

Awards shows are crap.

Having said that, Breaking Bad is the best one-hour drama on television and shouldn't have been tossed aside.

LOVED Community last season -- evangelized on its behalf to anyone who would listen. This season...very, very disappointing. Glad it didn't pick up any nominations.

I think they took the concept as far as it could go last season without getting either (a) stale or (b) uninterestingly weird. This season, they erred on the side of (b) week after week. No "snub" here.

Oh well, it was great fun while it lasted (and was working).

Baloney are all these "awards" are. Big star, past or present, and they and their series are nominated whether the show is worthy or not. Fraud, all fraud. Why watch? Why care? I don't.

"Breaking Bad" is the best Drama on Television. It is getting "The Wire" treatment from the awards people.

Walking Dead should have gotten a nomination that show is great

it's amazing how Breaking Bad got snubbed as it should have been nominated for Best Drama and Best Actor and Support actor roles too.

In a way I'm glad Louie didn't get nominated.. It just further separates the show from all the other crap that's on TV. I really feel that Louis C.K. is somehow above any phoney awards show...

Connie Britton has been dreadful on AHS. Dylan McDermott's the only one who has been worse than she has.

Well, you know what Hector Salamanca has to say about the Golden Globes this year?

I got goose bumps just reading your comment. How many other shows can do that to a reader?

"Episodes" was GREAT - despite Matt LeBlanc who finally wasn't annoying. Americans just cannot get British comedy writing, which is the foundation of this show and probably why it didn't translate to "Friends" followers who seem to prefer obvious setups, punchlines and canned laughter.

Friends was filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Only the first couple of seasons, and they added laugh tracks in on top of that. Besides knowing this for a fact, it's totally obvious when you watch it. Joke. Laugh. Joke. Laugh. Watch I Love Lucy, Roseanne, Cheers, etc., to hear how it really works - actors pausing and waiting for the audience to finish laughing. Duh.

I agree I love Episodes hope it comes back for a second season and Matt LeBlanc was so funny in it

Golden Globes is ridiculous.
Breaking Bad is phenomenal, as is Game of Thrones

Community is ok, can't say it's a surprise it wasn't nominated.
06:42 PM on 12/18/2011
Agreed. I don't think a show is "snubbed" when it's simply not worthy of any kind of nomination.

Idiot

I like watching many tv shows, and I still haven't heard of a lot of the shows that were nominated. Looks like all the shows I do hear good reviews about are snubbed. Game of Thrones had only one nomination? Really?

your poll makes no sense.
It is set up to only rate the degree of 'snubs' yet half your images are 'surprises'
