Malikah Shabazz, Malcolm X's Daughter, Held Without Bail For Probation Violation

Malikah Shabazz

NEW YORK -- Authorities say a daughter of Malcolm X is being held without bail after violating terms of her probation.

According to the New York Post, Malikah Shabazz (muh-LEE'-kuh shuh-BAHZ') is due back before a New York City judge on Jan. 6.

She was arrested at her home in Mars Hill, N.C., in February and later extradited to New York. She was sentenced to five years of probation in July for stealing a family friend's identity to run up credit card bills.

Prior to her recent arrest, Shabazz had been living in St. Albans, Vt., where the St. Albans Messenger says she was working to open a restaurant. Vermont prosecutor Jim Hughes says New York officials thought Shabazz was still in New York.

A message was left for Shabazz's lawyer.

Does anyone remember, this poor child saw her father gunned down right before, she, her sisters, and mothers eyes. I wish I could help her finiancially. My heart hurts so badly for her.

You’re mixing her up with Quibilah or Atillyah (sp?) Malikah & her twin Malaak weren’t even born yet.

Sometimes it's hard to live up to an image...Her father would be disappointed in her, but would love her anyway...I pray she gets help.

So what. I am tired of offspring of great people being anointed to follow in the footsteps of their parents. People are great on their own. Blood line and lineage have very little to do with your capacity to excel. The world is full of children of exceptional people that are mediocre or below. A war hero is a war hero, not because his father was one, but because he behaved a certain way at a certain time in history. To try to transfer bravery through genetics is insulting to all those who have displayed such excellence.
12:00 PM on 12/18/2011
Could this be an over-generalization, maybe? You're right: Not all offspring reach the levels of excellence as their parents. This is fine. But 'blood-line and lineage do affect ones' capacity of achievement. If your parents are decent folk; hard-working; successful, etc....these behaviors are incorporated; then expected. The lineage begins.

They should be giving you a check? For all you have been as a child'. Its hard to over come the stress lay on you from a child. Maybe you will find the Lord Jesus Christ help. He will give you the Faith and Grace in this life you have now. Change is one of His gift offer toward the world. Romans 10 : 9 - 10', can lead you out of this trouble into another', For working with the Lord Christ Jesus.

...as long as she's living, she still has a chance to get her life together. Hopefully death won't visit her before she realizes she needs to change her lifestyle!

11:11 AM on 12/17/2011
amazing how people blame criminal behavior as nothing more than a "mistake"....tells you a lot about their upbringing.

You pretty much summed it up.

Seh get lock up for this without bail and you have Sandansky who molested kids get to go free....and they are trying their darnest to find him innocent even when he admitted being "Naked" in the shower with children.....then you have Casey get to go free...and this lady you have to lock her up for something so minor....w.o bail

Sure what she did was wrong...but my question is why Blacks get such harsh sentencing while any other race get a slap on the wrist.....

Her father murdered before she was born, her grandfather murdered before that, and then whatever head trip it must have been to be the child of such an important, outspoken and polarizing public figure. Crime is crime and the justice system will run its course, and we all hope in as fair and objective a manner as possible. But I have tremendous sympathy and sorrow for what she and her family have endured.
