Wynton Marsalis Named CBS News Cultural Correspondent

CBS Names New Cultural Correspondent

Famed musician, composer and Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis was named CBS News cultural correspondent on Thursday.

The network announced that Marsalis will contribute reports to "CBS This Morning" and "CBS Sunday Morning." Marsalis is no stranger to "Sunday Morning," as his recording of trumpet fanfare "Abblasen" opens the program each week.

Marsalis has won nine Grammy Awards and has been the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center since he co-founded the jazz program at the cultural institution in 1987. The network wrote that while Marsalis is a world-renowned musician and advocate for music education, his new role at CBS News will allow him to showcase "his passion for education, for bringing together young and old, and for American culture in general."

Marsalis' first appearance on CBS News will be on Monday, January 16, 2012.
