Marcus Bachmann Planning Anti-Abortion, Anti-Gay Marriage Campaign As First Gentleman

Michele Bachmann's husband, Marcus, gave some insight Friday into what the U.S. can expect him to pursue as pet causes if he becomes first gentleman. Don't expect it to include many photo-ops like a horde of kids doing jumping jacks on the White House lawn.

"I've decided my cause is not going to be happy meals," Mr. Bachmann said at a recent campaign stop in Iowa, a not-so-subtle jab at the children's health initiative spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama. He went on to explain that he would use his position to coordinate a nationwide anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion campaign.

"We are going to get this message across," he said. "Marriage is between one man and one woman. We are going to promote families."

A socially conservative crusade of this nature falls in line with Bachmann's work as the director of a Christian counseling clinic that has come under fire for practicing controversial gay reparation therapy. Bachmann recently dropped the charges he had brought against a gay rights activist, calling for the man to return unpaid fees related to an undercover sting operation carried out at his facility.

But Mr. Bachmann isn't just focusing on issues of sexuality and women's choice. During a swing by an Iowa shooting range this week, he reaffirmed his wife's support for Second Amendment rights.

"Michele would say, 'Of course we need to protect ourselves,'" he said, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, in response to a question about gun rights.

Bachmann also took an opportunity to fire off a couple of rounds from a .45 caliber Kimber pistol. "This is fun. It smells good. It feels good. It's great," he told reporters after hitting his target.
