Reese Witherspoon To Star In 'Devil's Knot,' West Memphis Three Drama

Reese Witherspoon To Star In West Memphis Three Drama

Reese Witherspoon is getting in touch with her southern roots.

The star is eying the lead in Atom Egoyan's ("Chloe") West Memphis Three drama "Devil's Knot," according to Variety.

The movie is based on Mara Leveritt's chilling book "Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three," which chronicled the prolonged murder trial of three teenagers who were accused of killing three 8-year-old boys. The children, brutally slain, were found hog-tied in a wooded area known as Robin Hood Hills.

Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the victims. Right now, no other stars attached to the film. Because of the horrific nature of the story, "The West Memphis Three" has received a lot of media. Amy Berg's documentary on the case "West of Memphis," produced by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, will debut at Sundance.

The drama will be a nice change of pace for Witherspoon, whose upcoming romcom, "This Means War" imagines her in the middle of a weapon-wielding love triangle.
