Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii: Teen Users Spend More Time Streaming Videos On Consoles

QUICK POLL: Do You Use Your Xbox To Stream Videos?

Even the most devoted teen gamers are finding their attention divided when it comes to using their gaming consoles. Xbox 360 owners aren't just gaming anymore -- new research has found that they're spending more time than ever streaming videos.

According to a recent survey, consumers aged 13 and above are spending more time than ever before streaming video on their Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii gaming consoles. Streamers are most commonly using sites like Netflix, Hulu, MLB Network and ESPN3.

The results of a recent Nielson Survey found that in October, an average of 14 percent of the time consumers spent using an Xbox 360 was devoted to streaming video -- that's up 10 percent from a year ago. 15 percent of time spent on the Playstation 3 and 33 percent of time spent on the Nintendo Wii was devoted to streaming.

Most likely, the increased time spend spent streaming videos is replacing time spent watching actual DVDs, rather than interfering with gaming time. Video games are in higher demand than ever before, with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim raking in $650 million in retail sales since its release in mid-November.
