Kim Jong Il Dead: 'Team America, '30 Rock' And More (VIDEO)

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il died on Saturday, the state announced Sunday evening. The 69-year old leader, who ruled his impoverished nation with an iron fist, spread word of his own greatness to the point that he often seemed more preposterous myth than actual human. With his small stature, rotating stable of women and boasts of expertise in every field imaginable, many in the western world knew Kim more as a caricature than what he really was: a truly barbaric dictator.

Whether doing so advanced awareness of his brutality or simply provided laughs, TV and film writers in the United States were happy to stoke that myth. From "Team America" to "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live," comedy writers played with his wild attributes in increasingly insane ways. Whether he enjoyed the mocking or not, he must have understood the business -- Kim was a well-known film buff himself, owning a reported 10-20,000 DVDs and running North Korea's film industry from the time before he became dictator.

Kim Jong Il was quite a film buff. He was a fan of "Friday the 13th" movies, anything with Liz Taylor, and Daffy Duck cartoons. Kim also boasted having the worlds largest collection of videos and DVDs. He was a fan of the James Bond series until "Die Another Day" because North Koreans were the villains. But that was a dumb movie, anyway.

I LOVED THIS LIL' DUDE. He really called Dubya and Condolezza's bluff back in the day, when they threatened to come after him. He called Bush a "man-killer" and told him to "come on over!!

The SNL skit was the least funny (again).
The film was probably better than anything that has come out of Hollywood in recent years and Johnny Depp was fantastic as Pulgasari.

He had a classic case of Napoleon complex...or little man syndrome...whatever. He had the lowest self esteem in the world, so by improving it, he made an entire country miserable and lifted himself up higher with boastful lies. Good riddance. What an ugly man. Physically and metaphorically.
