9 Kim Jong Il Parodies: Was North Korean Dictator Known Best From 'Team America'? (VIDEOS)

First Posted: 12/19/11 11:12 AM ET   Updated: 12/19/11 02:52 PM ET

By all accounts, the life of Kim Jong Il was as mysterious as his death. The enigmatic ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea led a secluded life highly guarded by the state media, and nearly everything about his personal life (including his age) was the subject of speculation throughout his 17 years as dictator.

Often, this speculation was fueled by the diminutive dictator's odd interests and appearance. With his pompadour hairstyle and 5'2" frame propped on platform shoes, Kim's eccentric appearance made him an easy target for parody. And Kim's strange list of interests, including a passion for James Bond, Hennessey cognac, car racing and Eric Clapton, gave comedians a lot more to work with as they parodied the dictator on late night TV, sketch comedy shows, in film and more.

Starting with the definitive puppet-parody from "Team America: World Police," we've included 9 of the funniest Kim Jong Il parodies. Which is your favorite?

Many Americans arguably know Kim Jong Il best from Trey Parker and Matt Stone's marionette-action-jingoistic-parody movie, "Team America: World Police." Sounding suspiciously like Eric Cartman with a speech impediment, Kim is the film's main villain -- but in his quiet moments, laments that he's "the smartest, most crever, most physicarry fit / But nobody else seems to rearize it."

I'm sure Matt Stone and Trey Parker will be the first to take serious laughing shots at Kim J's death via South Park and it will be hilarious

I damn near died laughing watching the "I'm ronery" number for the first time in the theater. It's just perfect Broadway applied to one of the most loathsome dictators in the world.

Now, to the Americans who are making fun of this guy since he just died... how would you react if people elsewhere were celebrating and amusing themselves at the death of a US president? Remember, US presidents have committed war crimes and killed innocent people, ie Obama, Bush, etc. Kim Jong Il did not do a fraction of harm compared to those two tyrants.
11:02 PM on 12/20/2011
Um ok, number one, these videos were made before he died. They're not intended to celebrate his death. And trust me, plenty of other countries make fun of Americans and our presidents too.

And number two, obviously you don't know a thing about Kim Jong Il. If a person living in North Korea committed the slightest crime, such as speaking against the government, they and THREE GENERATIONS of that person's family would be sent to concentration camps and often starve to death there! So don't even compare Obama or Bush to cruel tyranny of Kim Jong Il!

To quote the great John McEnroe, "You CANNOT be serious!" Excuse me, but in case you had not noticed, Americans make fun of OUR presidents all the time. And Kim Jong Il was a monster. So, off the high horse, mister.

What's really sad is that you almost feel a twinge of regret for the man. He never really seemed like much. A bit on the homely side, and even when surrounded by hoards of military men you almost felt as though they were actually keeping him prisoner. If you think about it he really wasn't given any choice in his birth and what he inherited. He was Kim Jongs son, a dictator. He became what he was thrust into and never really seemed to fit in to that niche. It's no wonder he feared everything. To be sure, all the while he seemed to make a lot of threats, he never really did anything during his time in power. He accomplished zilch, as compared to some other threatening characters. Amadinajad has been more of a threat. Osama and Saddam had us in greater fear although even Saddam had never overtly threatened us. Given all that has happened in the last thirty years I think it's safe to say that Kim Jong Il really didn't amount to much. His Bark, if indeed it was even his, was worse than his bite. He seems pathetically small now in death, and maybe we were the ones who magnified his power far above what it really was.

Apparently the folks who can use cuss words in their columns have qualms about posters doing likewise. So I will attempt to repost this in such a way that I don't hurt their dainty little feelings.
Kim Jung Il was born to his lot in life and that gives him a slight excuse for his being what he was, Bush doesn't have any excuse whatsoever. He was born in a "free" country and had every opportunity to choose to be what he wanted. He chose to be an "A**wipe. I imagine so did you.
