'Punk'd' Returns: MTV And Ashton Kutcher Revive Hidden Camera Show

'Punk'd' Officially Returning

MTV has officially announced the return of "Punk'd," but one mystery remains: Who is at the helm of the prank series?

"Punk'd" was originally hosted by Ashton Kutcher, and the "Two and a Half Men" star will return to the franchise as an executive producer. MTV will give viewers a sneak peek at the new series during its New Year's Eve programming block hosted by Demi Lovato and "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Posey. MTV's year-end celebration will include performances by Lovato, Selena Gomez, J Cole, Jason Derulo, and Mac Miller.

The original "Punk'd" helped launch the careers of Dax Shephard and B.J. Novak. Kutcher deployed a group of actors, including Novak and Shephard, to prank his celebrity friends. Memorable pranks include Justin Timberlake, Zach Braff and Brandy. Premiering in 2003, the original series lasted eight seasons, wrapping up its run in 2007.

News of the "Punk'd" revival first broke in August with teen singer Justin Bieber reportedly pulling the first prank on country superstar Taylor Swift.

MTV's "NYE in NYC 2012" will reveal more details on Sat. Dec. 31 at 11 p.m. ET.
