Gary Johnson To Run As Libertarian, Quit Republican Primaries

First Posted: 12/20/11 08:35 PM ET Updated: 12/21/11 08:29 AM ET

Presidential candidate Gary Johnson is dropping out of the race as a Republican, and will instead seek the nomination of the Libertarian party, according to Politico.

The move doesn't come as much of a surprise. In November, the former New Mexico governor indicated he was seriously considering running for president as a Libertarian, telling the Santa Fe New Mexican he felt "abandoned" by the Republican party. "The Republican Party has left me by the wayside," he said.

Politico reports Johnson will announce his decision at a press conference in Santa Fe on Dec. 28. His Facebook page lists an event occurring that day -- which will be live-streamed -- but reveals no additional details.

I wish more people who stop idiotically asking who Gary Johnson is and go look him up.

A reasonable, fairly intelligent and open-minded man who isn't afraid of scary words like "co-operation", "compromise", and "science." ....no wonder he never stood a chance as a republican candidate.

Never heard of the guy. I'm guessing he's not verbally Christian enough or conservative enough. Judging the field out there now he certainly can't be too much of either.

The vast majority of Americans will not vote for a candidate that they perceive as being too far left or right of center. If a sitting President is perceived as being too far left or right, the voters will curb his inclinations by electing a Congress in the midterm elections that will break his stones for the remainder of his term. If a President is smart, and regardless of what his leanings are, his policies will be centrist.

His hair looks like a birds nest or a condemned bird's nest.

It's still better than that mess on top of Donald Trump's head.

I would completely agree with you on that one. I don't know what the hell that is on Donald's head.
