"Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Kim Richards checked into a rehab center earlier this month after a tumultuous year played out on Bravo, and now her first husband is showing his support.
Monty Brinson, who was married to Richards in the 1980s, says she is finding happiness thanks to rehab.
"Kim wasn't happy with her life," Brinson told Life & Style Weekly exclusively. "She wanted to seek help so she could get better for herself, her children and her family."
When news broke that Richards was checking into rehab, sources claimed her problems had been brewing for a while.
"Kim's alcohol addiction along with other substance abuse problems has been obvious for quite some time, but it's really good that she's finally getting help," a source told Us Weekly.
Brinson told Life & Style that watching Richards' co-star Taylor Armstrong deal with the aftermath of her husband's suicide helped the reality star understand the importance of seeking help.
"She's ready to start a new life when she gets out," Monty said.
