The Biggest Media Stories Of 2011

The year 2011 was about as momentous and news-filled a year as we've ever seen, and the media was no exception to that rule. Below, we present our admittedly imperfect attempt to capture some of the events and stories that shook up the media world in the past twelve unforgettable months.

Note: the list is in no particular order.

There were many huge media stories this year, but none has been so juicy or complicated or compelling or downright Shakespearean as the scandal that engulfed Rupert Murdoch and his company.

The jaw-dropping scope of the scandal still has the power to shock, even all these months later. It had been known for years that something fishy was going on at Murdoch's British newspaper empire, but it wasn't until the summer that the colossal level of criminality at the News of the World was exposed and the once-formidable News Corp. empire began to look very troubled indeed.

That paper was quickly shuttered, Murdoch was hauled before Parliament (where his wife leaped her way into the history books), News Corp. shareholders revolted, and the repercussions of the scandal are still reverberating. And here's the craziest thing: it's not over. Not by a long shot. The next shoe to drop? Former heir apparent James Murdoch and his increasingly hard to believe denials about his knowledge of the spread of hacking.

I've not had so much fun since Watergate and wish we could call this one Murdoch's Tea Pot Blown. Bribary, blackmail, invasion of privacy, buying cops, buying politicians, destroying lives all for a bloody dime. It's a ripping yarn. Just watched Piers squirming at the Leveson site. That was delightful. What a waffler!!

I visit the Queen daily to lap beside her chair, Pussycat that I am. It's quite the fancy feast!! I am so glad to know when my NYTs Lincoln lease runs out I can cruise the Guardian, but not comment. They threw me out of that fightclub.

Tina Brown--Newsweek could be better. And you don't have much to contribute as one of the Joe & Mika posse. And Princess Diana--the mileage you keep generating for yourself is embarrassing.

What a joke. The biggest media stories are the people behind the desk not the stories themselves. What a self absorbed media. Look at Me.

I think some of you people aren't quite getting the gist of this story: It doesn't seek to highlight the biggest News stories of 2011 . . . it concerns the biggest News stories about Media in 2011. Do you not see the distinction?

Thought you might like this quote, from 2,000 years ago:

Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so
enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss
of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions.
… Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the
“new, wonderful good society” which shall now be Rome’s, interpreted to
mean “more money, more ease, more security, more living fatly at the
expense of the industrious.”
Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.)

There isn't enough room here to post everything I'd like to say. I hope you wouldn't mind taking a look at the link below==>>

It starts like this:
I think I get why America can not learn from it's past political mistakes. I now know why America won't ever be a permanent Super Power in the world and can not sustain for ever it's dominance as a leader for the defence of Democracy. The reason is human nature.

Despite the fact that America is so sophisticated militarily and her technology is vastly superior to most world nations, there is one thing she always has had that can bring her to her knees. Her one weakness is also her greatest strength; freedom. Freedom is the best part of America and everyone who has experienced it knows it far out weighs dictatorships.

Freedom and Democracy go hand and hand towards the economy of the United States. Her citizens have known nothing else and most would fight to the death for the rights and privileges that would be impossible to give up. There is where the trouble lies that cripples America. I'll try to explain:

I studied History at college; Cicero and the Roman Empire specifically. All one has to do is read the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire (Edward Gibbon) and the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (William Shirer) to see that every socitey/civilization's trantectory to date is EXACTLY like ours is. We see the demise.

And hopefully next year's media story will be that the people occupied the media, became the media. http://OccupyGovernment.org is a campaign to replace Congress in 2012 with the same philosophy as the OWS movement. Become.

Glenn Beck was chosen by god to succeed , no education
no talent, he got on cnn and had a very successful show on fox.
He was a former alcoholic who got a lot of low information voters
to believe his fear tactics. He is a modern day Howard Beal. Beck
is a multi- millionaire. He has proven again that a sucker is born every minute
06:44 PM on 12/21/2011
...and still there are many who ignore the political process and refuse to vote. Why? they still don't think they can do anything about the mess America is in. Glen Beck worked to get the ball rolling in many peoples minds. His time is over, any new ideas? The net is hopefully going to get the youth involved.
