Dublin: Santa Letter Discovered 100 Years Later

Is 10 too old to believe in Santa? Apparently not for little Hannah, whose 1911 note to St. Nick has been unearthed in Dublin, Ireland, 100 years later.

The Irish Times has uncovered a yellowed letter addressed to Father Christmas and taken the trouble to track down the residents of the home where it was found using data from the 1911 census. Turns out the likely culprits were then- 10-year-old Hannah and 7-year-old Fred.

According to The Irish Times, the letter was found tucked up a chimney in a Dublin household, presumably placed there for Santa to find on his way down the chute. Indeed, those were simpler times; before children could meticulously track Santa's progress with live satellite updates or skip the snail mail and text the old man, they were forced to pen their wishes by hand and, in this case, wait a century for someone to see them.

The children's requests may also seem quaint compared to kids' demands today: "I want a baby doll and a waterproof with a hood and a pair of gloves and a toffee apple and a gold penny and a silver sixpence and a long toffee," the note reads.

A man named Victor Bartlem has recognized little Hannah's writing as that of his mother's. According to the BBC, he was shocked by the discovery: "I simply couldn't believe it. I never knew about this letter. I never even knew it existed."
