Madonna's 'Truth Or Dare' Fragrance Sounds Kind Of Ridiculous

We suppose Madonna is just bored now?

The pop legend announced last month that she was launching a lifestyle brand, to be called Truth Or Dare By Madonna, targeted at women 27-50 and available exclusively at Macy's in 2012.

Truth Or Dare will sell fragrances, accessories, footwear, handbags and intimates -- dare we say, very Jessica Simpson?

Madge just recently sent out some press info about Truth Or Dare's signature fragrance, which will be available in April, and honestly, it's kind of LOL-tastic.

According to the folks at fan site Madonnarama, the launch of Truth or Dare by Madonna will include quite the fanfare, accompanied by "bracelets, earrings, sexy lingerie and a special Dom Perignon champagne bottle with custom made packaging."

And even the press kit for the scent is over-the-top: the site received a package containing "a vase of yellow waterlillies, a gold box, a blindfold designed by Kiki de Montparnasse, and a tiny vial of the scent."

Er... how do you design a blindfold?

Moving on -- Madonna says that the fragrance was inspired by a lady very dear to her heart: her mother.

My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume. I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like Gardenias and Tuberose. An intoxicating mixture. Feminine and mysterious.

The scent will contain notes of "narcotic florals, balanced with addictive woods and vanilla." Sounds dangerous.

Madonna also offers us this tease (cribbed from a teenager's Tumblr post?):

Truth: Duality. Sin is my twin. Contradictions push and pull.

Dare:
To expose what lies beneath. Infinite possibility.
In this tension, we find our true selves.

And in an earlier promotion this month, some hot male models (dressed in a duality of colors, get it?) delivered bottles of the fragrance to beauty editors.

With all this buildup to a fragrance launch, we're hoping Truth Or Dare lives up to the hype.

Question for the writer.. Are you living under rock?!? Do you have access to the TV, radio, internet, etc? If so then you'll know that the question is Madonna bored is absolutely insane!!! Madonna has so many things going on. She has an album which will be released at the end of March, a tour that starts at the end of May, recently she just performed at the super bowl (please tell me that you didn't know that), her new single released, the music video for the song released, not to mention all of rehearsals for the super bowl performance, auditions for dancers for the super bowl performance, music video, and her world tour. Therefore, NO madonna is not bored. She comes out with products or clothes, music or whatever because she feels that it is a good business decision. Oh and silly me I forgot that her movie W.E. came out recently in the U.S. for a limited release.

As a fan of Madonna who has been waiting forever for a perfume from her, I am very excited. Madonna may not have been the first with a lot of things in her career, but she always does them better, even setting the standard. The buzz around the perfume, even here in Canada, is immense. To the writer of this article, Jessica, always great to see one woman trashing another woman for pursuing a career. Especially someone who helped change what's possible for the modern woman. Redefining and influencing an entire generation, and the generations after, even you ungrateful Jessica.

ms. misener, you should know that this is a fairly standard marketing launch for a perfume. sending a promo kit to editors announcing the launch of something and including "gifts" that tie back to the concept of the product happens all the time.

and such an odd, snarky comment regarding the designing of a blindfold. everything is designed.

lastly, starting a line with a few small accessories is not only jessica simpson, but tom ford as well, or several other brands for that matter. you'll recall he started his eponymous line with only sunglasses. it's good business. that's one thing madonna seems to know something about.

i'm not sure what the point of this article is, but it feels a little flimsy.

It's just as silly to dislike a fragrance because of whose name is on it, as it is to like one for the same reason. The description sounds promising, I'd like to smell it, before I make any judgement.

Blogs and comments tend to be seriously harsh on Madonna, which is fine, but those who write Madonna off as a no talent hack are just flat out distorting a long career of crowd satisfying performances. I challenge haters to listen to any three songs off of the Ray of Light CD and not hate her a little less. I'm a musician who appreciates all the lyrical and musical brilliance contained on that CD.

For whatever reason Madonna brings out harshness in people. Some cross the line. Hating her is probably as unhealthy as idolizing her.

Another attempt to make a comeback. But trying to sell a scent based on her mama's perfume is just too touchy feely to be desribed as 'dangerous'. Most of the things her promotional staff has come up with recently has been confusing and outdated. I'd fire them in a heartbeat.
