Paris Hilton's Vanity Fair Spain Cover: Can Someone Explain This To Us? (VIDEO, PHOTO)

Paris Hilton has been making headlines these days for... well, not much.

The famous socialite who ruled pop culture back in the early 2000s is still around but has been keeping a decidedly lower profile. Her latest reality show, Oxygen's "The World According to Paris," was cancelled after low ratings this summer and in an ABC interview, Hilton walked out when asked if perhaps her "moment has passed."

Apparently it has not. Hilton has gotten back in her expensive designer duds and grabbed her pooch for a photo shoot with -- wait for it -- Vanity Fair Spain.

For realz. Paris was shot by Greg Lotus for Spain's edition of the high-brow culture mag, which typically features A-list actors and hard-hitting journalism inside.

But the January issue of Vanity Fair Spain is going to have a glittering addition: America's most famous blonde socialite posing in a slinky gold evening gown and a Veronica Lake-esque hair 'do.

You can see that outfit and more in the bizarrely dramatic behind-the-scenes video, which Hilton posted on her own website, ParisHilton.com (where you can also buy the Paris HIlton app -- just 99 cents!) The video gives a peek at Hilton wearing some unexpectedly chic fashions: a gray fur vest (and no pants, natch), the leather-and-fur jacket from Louis Vuitton's Fall 2011 runway finale and what look like the ubiquitous Miu Miu sparkly booties.

While we're still not sure why Paris Hilton got a cover shoot in Vanity Fair Spain, we can admit this: we're surprisingly pleased with the results. Is this the beginning of a Paris comeback?

The offices of Vanity Fair España must have been sucked into a time warp from 2004 while they were doing their January issue, because why in SANTO DIOS they would they put this vapid person on their cover? She shouldn't have been on the cover in 2004, and she really shouldn't be on now. Was nobody else available? Paz Vega's dog walker? Pedro Almodovar's hairdresser? Maria Teresa's evil daughter? The assistant to the royal groomer who prunes the ethereal dandelion bush on the Duchess of Alba's head? A homeless man who barfed on Javier Bardem's shoes once? Any of those should've been on the cover before Paris Hilton. And do you blame that poor dog for wondering if there's enough coffee in that cup for it drown itself in? It's either that or face the doggy death closet of doom.

She is a spoilt brat. If she did not have the name and the fame, she would most likely end up in obsecurity. Going to jail in the USA just makes her more attractive to so many. Also, recently, they found marijuana in her bags going through customs in China. Don't know what happened, but she got off. Maybe that is why she is keeping such a low profile in the USA.

If these two crimes had been committed by a regular person that person would be in jail, tainted for life or banned to live in obsecurity. It just shows us that its mostly the rich and famous who get the breaks 99.7 percent of the time.

Paris, can you stop being self-absorbed and do some good to help others,

I'm not necessarily a Paris Hilton fan, however she is decidedly less obnoxious and annoying than the Kardashians. She looks chic.

Oh, I disagree. She is right up there with them. Famous for nothing more than being rich. She's written no plays, run no companies, earned no doctorate, helped no starving children, not written a decent song or done anything at all that benefitted anyone other than herself... exactly like the Kardashians.

If you look at the video - she is not that airbrushed. She's a a stunning woman. Now, If only her personality and her persona could match her looks. She needs to grow up and do some good in the world. (Like she said she was going to do years ago).
