Yahoo Sign Over Bay Bridge Finally Taken Down (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Farewell To An SF Legend

The dot-com bubble may have burst in 2000, but anyone traveling eastbound on the Bay Bridge for the past ten years never would have known it. Since the boom, the buzzing purple Yahoo sign over the freeway has served as a neon reminder of the Bay Area's history of innovation, technology and wealth. And on Wednesday, it was finally taken down.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Yahoo pulled out of the Clear Channel advertising space last month, and the iconic sign was taken away in pieces on Wednesday.

The billboard, fashioned to resemble a hotel vacancy sign, read "Yahoo: Where the world checks in daily," with a frequently updated portion of the design that reflected both updates at Yahoo and current San Francisco events. Slogans like, "Honk if you're single -- Yahoo Personals" and "Go Giants! World Series Champs" gave the sign a decidedly San Francisco personality, and soon made it a landmark in the SF skyline.

Check out a few of our favorite Yahoo sign memories below. So long, Yahoo sign. The commute will never be the same.
