Adam Lambert Arrested And Jailed After Bar Brawl With Boyfriend Sauli Koskinen In Finland

First Posted: 12/22/11 09:56 AM ET Updated: 12/22/11 10:21 AM ET

"American Idol" alum Adam Lambert was arrested and briefly jailed on assault charges in Helsinki on Thursday after a heated quarrel with his Finnish boyfriend and local reality TV star, Sauli Koskinen.

The Hollywood Reporter quotes Petri Juvonen, who headed up the police investigation into the event, as saying Lambert and Koskinen were arrested around 4 a.m. Thursday outside gay nightspot DTM, or Don't Tell Mama, and were released that afternoon after being interrogated.

According to Finnish tabloid the Ilta-Sanomat, the reason for the exchange between Lambert and Koskinen -- which began in one of the club's back rooms and continued on the street outside after the couple was kicked out -- has not yet been confirmed, and possible injuries were not severe.

Finnish beauty queen Sofia Ruusila, an ex-Miss Helsinki, also claims Lambert accidentally hit her by mistake when she tried to get between the couple, according to the Reporter.

It was a rough end to an otherwise great week for Lambert, who arrived in Finland on Monday to celebrate Christmas with Koskinen. The pop star's new single "Better Than I Know Myself," from his forthcoming album "Trespassing," was just released to great fanfare on iTunes this week.

Koskinen, who is best known as the winner of the 2007 Finnish edition of "Big Brother," has since blogged about the incident, according to TMZ. "Publicity is not easy, but also celebrities are just human," he writes. "Love is not easy either, but it lasts forever!"

He was thrown out of a birthday party he crashed given for Lady Gaga. Reports stated he was drunk and hit wall or ceiling with his fist. Now this incident. I am starting to wonder if he should be rethinking his relationship with alcohol.

Great - finally a chance for the media to bust a few caps in Adam. He and the boyfriend are laughing about it. Let it go. Nothing to see here.

However, on another note, I wish Adam would go back to his natural BLOND. This black hair, black makeup, black fingernails and black clothes is really wearing thin. I know he likes to play dressup, but his album sales would improve if he went back to his cute and natural appearance. He's an amazing talent. But to be a real "star" he has to be the entire package. This "gothy" look is holding him back.

INTERESTING! Had this been a male - female relationship the media would have been all over this story. Nacey Grace and company would have already convicted the guy and labled him as a "domestic abuser". The radio stations would stop playing his music and his next CD would be banned or not supported by the music industry, music media etc. Hummm, must be nice to be Adam Lambert! *side-eye*

Lovers get into fights just like straight couples do. It doesn't mean they don't love one another, they are just human.

Because straights never get into fights?
06:49 PM on 12/24/2011
If straights got in a fight the media would have the headlines of "Domestic Violence" and one person...most likely the male...would be demonized. Nothing of the sort happens in this instance.

What Huffington Post failed to mention was that the Helsinki police determined there was no violent behavior associated with this unfortunate and embarrassing incident...They were quite drunk, ended up in a shouting match, and indulged in some embarrassing "drunk wrestling" (Sauli's words..), and were both as a result, arrested, sobered up, interviewed by the police, who determined that there was no violence involved, just drunkenness and a failure to use good sense, which is a well known and common result of drunkenness. Been there, done that. No charges were filed and they were released, embarrassed to be sure. The other thing the Post's article failed to mention was Mr. Lambert's later statement, posted on his twitter account yesterday:

"Adam Lambert @adamlambert
Violence is not to be taken lightly. Embarrassed by drunkenness. No punches thrown, no injuries and no charges. Media always exaggerates."

In my opinion, this should have also been included in this article, as well as the final report from the Helsinki Police Department.

As to the homophobic and hate-filled comments here: Shame on you. Drunken mistakes and stupid behavior are not the sole domain of gay men..We're all human and make unfortunate choices on occasion. Adam Lambert and Sauli Koskinen are good men and don't deserve the hate and derision I'm seeing here. Look to your own hearts and replace your hate with something that is of benefit to humankind. Love, compassion and acceptance are three words that come to mind.

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone wants to be treated the same and considered the same yet they create separation for themselves. Makes NO SENSE to me.
02:55 PM on 12/24/2011
LOL because ppl want to be treated "the same" as you stated, doesn't mean that they ever are! There are some common issues that everyone can relate to but there are those times when "like ppl" gather to discuss issues related to them! IMO peace...

when people stop treating gays differently then there will be no need for it. take your speech to the religious right wing, not here. we already know this.
