Steve Jobs Wins Grammy: Trustees Award Honor For Late Apple Founder

Steve Jobs

First Posted: 12/22/11 08:01 AM ET Updated: 12/22/11 08:21 AM ET

Steve Jobs will be honored with a posthumous Grammy Award, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday.

The late Apple founder and tech icon will receive the Trustees Award for having "helped create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books," the Academy said in a release. More specifically, the award will recognize "Jobs' innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, [which] revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased."

Certainly, iTunes has forever changed the music industry. CD sales have plummeted and full-length albums are becoming less important as the sale of low-priced singles has become more and more dominant. Studies have projected that digital sales will surpass CD sales by 2013, if not 2012.

Jobs, who passed away in October after an extended battle with cancer, received another honor on Wednesday as a bronze statue of the tech revolutionary was unveiled in Budapest.

Enough of Jobs already. He was a business man, not a saint. Give it a rest.

Silly me. I thought Grammy Awards were given to singers, musicians, and song writers. I guess that is just the part they show on the TV broadcast.

Awards like the Grammys and Oscars honor people who have contributed behind the scenes. The Grammy Trustees Award is an example of that. Additionally, The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame inducts non-musicians who have contributed to the field as well.

That should have gone to Obama.

That's crazy to give it to him. He destroyed the album. Making each song a single was disastrous for the artists.

Yeah instead of selling cds for $13 each they sell 2 or 3 'hit' songs for $3. Good work Steve.

yeah, because hundreds of millions of people walking around with the ability to purchase music exactly where they are is bad for recording artists.

I can purchase music while on the toilet thanks to Jobs. I'm pretty sure muscians are grateful for that.

Not saying that you're wrong (none of us knows), but there's a great story about George Bernard Shaw receiving an Oscar in 1938, and pretending as if it was the lowest thing ever.

Years later, a writer was interviewing him, and the Oscar was right in the middle of the mantle in his living room. :)

Or he'd have put it up next to his Oscars.

The Financial Post dug into the U.S. Treasury’s daily reports and found that the federal government has a remaining operating balance of $73.768 billion before it hits the debt ceiling next Tuesday.
In stark contrast, Steve Jobs’ company has cash reserves of $75.876 billion, according to its recent and record-breaking second quarter earnings report.

All of the CASH RESERVES are obviously in other country's.
Now what kind of affect do you think he could have made on the American economy if those products that made him filthy rich were made in America?

But instead all he funneled billions of dollars “OUT†of America.

Does he still deserve an award?

Sure,,, we'll give China one too.

Nice, but the technology in my garage lab is worth more than 100 billion dollars.
Today I added the first slicon solar cells that make alternating current directly from sunlight - worth about 50 billion dollars just for the A/C solar cell technology....Alfred-

Steve Jobs was a genius and deserved this award and more. He invented most it in his garage.
It's the best place to do it: No phones, no disruptive employes or spectators, it's quiet and you can think even with spy planes flying over (the Chinese, US, etc. were spying on Jobs and me as well, still are).
It's why I also have a lab/workshop in my garage, only there is a lot more in there than just computer stuff. A lot more. Today I designed the first solar cells that make alternating current from sunlight directly, no inverter is needed....Alfie-

Next he'll get an Oscar. For duping millions of people into thinking he's a god. Hell of an acting job wouldn't you say.

because of Jobs, I can buy music while i'm taking a dump.

If that's not a revolution, I don't know what is.

Ask any musician if Steve Jobs was a hero.

The change from analog to digital downloading broke the recording industry. Music became, for several years, essentially a free product. Copyrights became almost meaningless. Most recording artists now earn far less income from their work than they used to.

Steve Jobs didn't create this situation. He stepped into an industry in chaos and created a platform for music that made it pay again. But - and this is a big but - the chief beneficiary is Apple, not musicians. As far as working artists are concerned, Apple has merely replaced the tyranny of the old record companies with a new one, that pays far less to the creators of the content. Apple controls the market, the format and the price.

I wonder how as Apple hardly makes a penny for 99 cents it sells each song.

Good going! You deserve a trophy!

As opposed to the computer on which you posted this?

I know you won't respond, because none of you ever do.
02:35 PM on 12/22/2011
Ok, I'm calling shenanigans on this. Steve Jobs does not deserve a grammy for ipods/tunes. He didn't care about making the industry better, he cared about making as much money as possible of the backs of artist's work. This has nothing to do with the art form itself. Jobs only talent was for profit. Thats it. I do not think he should be recognized for that. Nor his company.

read his bio and then come back and post.

of course, and I'm assuming you're an android/windows guy - you'll say he was lying.
06:00 PM on 12/22/2011
thats your response.. read his bio? I don't really need to read SJ's epic exercise in narcisism to know that he put profit before everything else. I also don't need to read it to know that he was a liar (he lied about his relationship with the mother of his child). Why is it any time one of you mac fanboys sees that someone doesn't like this giant douchenozzel your heads start to explode... seriously its like he was a golden calf.
