Bill Clinton Pledges To Match Donations To His Foundation This Week

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday he will put up a $2 match for every $1 donated to his foundation through the end of the year

Clinton established the foundation 10 years ago as the anchor of his post-presidency work. The organization has a range of initiatives, including working with governments to improve access to treatment for people with AIDS and malaria, supporting small businesses in developing areas and looking for ways to combat climate change.

"When I started the Clinton Foundation, I had only a vision of what I wanted to accomplish, but I knew that we would help save lives, solve important problems, and give more people everywhere the chance to live their dreams," Clinton wrote in an email sent Tuesday by the foundation.

Clinton, who served as Arkansas' governor before he became president, said his foundation has made that vision a reality.

"But we are far from finished," he said.

I've been looking for another good liberal cause to which to donate some of the money that I inherited from my uber-right wing, tea party-loving stepmother, and I just found it!
I've already donated some of it to the President Obama re-election campaign.
Finally, some of her money is going to do some good, not supporting the GOTP.

The cameras and media left and so did the Clintons. On to new "pledges" and press opportunities.

I bet he did some good there for sure more than you did. So he was supposed to single handedly turn Haiti into a prosperous nation? What have the Bushes done for the little people? Let them eat cake? Too busy sitting on corporate boards or speaking circuits to find time for some philanthropy?

This is just another example that the Dems want to help others and the GOP T-Party only wants to protect those that buy their elections for them.

Aside from getting some adult consensual head, he was a pretty good president. He did some things I don't agree with but on balance we were all better off under him than presidents before and after. History will judge Clinton far better than either of the Bushs or Obama. Suck on that GOP!
08:54 AM on 12/29/2011
Recent history seems to be showing that the Clinton-GOP colusion on the repeal of New Deal era regulations on the financial industry openned the door wide to abuses and economic collapse, while Bill cashed in for mega millions. Just saying.

Indeed he did, but you have to admit that he ran a better country than Bush or Obama.
08:56 AM on 12/29/2011
No fan of Bush, but don't you think NAFTA and repeal of Glass Steagal are the source of some of the economic problems the nation has faced since Bill left office and joined the 1 percent?
11:11 AM on 12/29/2011
The repeal of Glass Steagal was republican legislation. He shouldn't have signed it, but it was Congress that put it on his desk.

He must have made a fortune in the market 2011 for him to be doing this. There's massive tax benefits for the wealthy. He clearly needs to have some losses to cover the gains.

Democrats and Republicans are really just the same. We live in a dictatorship of greed.

According to an earlier Huffington Post article (see below), Bill Clinton's net worth is $38 million. That's more than Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush. I believe that would put him in what the Occupiers call the "1 percent." Giving $2 for every $1 donation (for just the final week of the year) seems disingenuous. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/21/the-net-worth-of-the-amer_n_825939.html?page=2

Interesting. Other sources estimate Bill's network at $80 million.
http://www.therichest.org/celebnetworth/politician/president/bill-clinton-net-worth/

According the Los Angeles Times, the Clintons' income went from $358,000 in 2000 to $16.5 million a year later, totalled $109 million by 2008, http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr/05/nation/na-taxes5

Hillary "loaned" her presidential campaign $13.2 million, which she later "forgave."
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/us/politics/23clintons.html

This form of campaign financing raised many questions about the "millions of dollars that special interests [including foreign entities] have paid Bill Clinton for speeches and other work since he left the White House. ...In tapping some of that cash, 'the Clintons have effectively bypassed campaign finance reform in a manner that's ingenious — using Bill Clinton effectively as a front for the fundraising" http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2008/05/08/36441/clintons-campaign-loans-raise.html#storylink=cpy

Clinton just wrote a new book that he makes $5 from every sale so this is just part of his promotional tour.
08:17 AM on 12/28/2011
There are many reasons why this guy is called "slick Willy" so I would not be surprised that there is a lot of money coming to him through this foundation one way or the other. The Clinton's are smart and know how to work the "system" as well as anyone and have accumulated remendous wealth in the process (prime example of the so-called 1 percent that liberals hate, except they don't hate Clinton). I guess only the wealthy that are liberal are the exception to the rule...the rest are insensitive conservatives who made the wealth off of the backs of the "people". Just ask Obama...he was not a wealthy man until the last three years..and now he is..how did tht happen? The salary of the President is less then most of his friends in academia and on Wall Street.

YOU ARE A MALICIOUS IGNORAMUS, read the enclosed, not every one needs to rob as the gop s/tea bags assume, BILL CLINTON IS A HUMANITARIAN, WORLD LEADER,

OBAMA MADE MONEY BEFORE BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT.

MY LIFE is a 2004 autobiography written by former President of the United States Bill Clinton, who left office on January 20, 2001. It was released on June 22, 2004. the book sold in excess of 2,250,000 copies. for My Life was actually $15 million.[2]

the White House released tax returns for the president and first lady, who jointly reported about $2.8 million in income last year. The bulk of that—about $2.6 million—were royalties from the president’s two books: “The Audacity of Hope” and “Dreams From My Father.” That’s hardly a shabby figure, but Obama’s book income was much higher the year before, when he reported almost $4.1 million in royalties, according to his 2007 Senate financial disclosure. The likely explanation: Although both of his books were best-sellers all last year, most of the sales were of the paperback versions, which earned Obama a lot less money. In May 2007, just after he officially declared his candidacy for president, Obama filed a financial disclosure that included an explanation of just how much money he gets from his books:

You express some very legitmate concerns.

I believe if you will check it out, most of President Obama's personal wealth came from autobiographical books written and sold BEFORE he was president. Understandably, those books have enjoyed even greater sells internationally since he became president.

President Obama may certainly have the opportunity when he leaves office to follow the lead of the Clinton in accepting huge "speaking and consulting fees" (wink wink) in appreciation for "past service" and selling influence around the world to become a mega millionaire. I hope he is strong enough to avoid that temptation. It seems too early, however, to criticize him for cashing in on the presidency Clinton-style.

I heard on the Keizer Report on RT-network last night that the malaria vaccine that the Foundations pay for only works when you take another pill, controlled by another pharmaceutical company which reaps millions of dollars in profits and that Gates and Clinton own a lot of shares of......and in-turn get back the millions plus from their Foundation giving into their own stock holdings. I know its sounds very cynical but it would not surprise me in the least. Does anyone know if you also need to take another medicine for the malaria vaccine to work?

A malaria vaccine is different than a viral vaccine. Parasites are significantly more complex than a virus.
