Church's Chicken Shooting: 2 Dead, 5 Wounded In Chicago

Two people were killed and five others wounded Tuesday night when a gunman opened fire at a Church's Chicken restaurant on Chicago's South Side.

The gunman apparently was involved in an argument with someone outside of the fast-food chain at 66th and Halsted streets about 6:50 p.m., the Chicago Tribune reports. He then chased the person inside and opened fire -- and it is unclear if any of the dead or injured were the intended targets.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the dead were males in their 20s. A 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and a 51-year-old man were were each hospitalized with gunshot wounds to their legs and a 58-year-old man was shot multiple times. He was also hospitalized, but condition information was not immediately available.

One area resident who came to the crime scene Tuesday told NBC Chicago that her daughter used to date one of the men who was killed.

"This must have been an accident," she told the station. "They must have got the wrong person. He did nothing to nobody. It hurts. It hurts bad."

Diamond Brown, a friend of one of the victims, told the Tribune he was always supportive and in good spirits.

"He was a great big brother to my brothers and sisters," she told the paper.

Police told CBS Chicago the fight between the gunman and one of the victims was gang-related, and continued their search for the shooter early Wednesday.
