Think it's time to make some healthy lifestyle adjustments? Dan Buettner, author of The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who've Lived the Longest, is right behind you. Buettner is crossing Iowa in a bus, attempting to change American towns into healthier places. "More than 40 percent of Americans smoked in the '60s, and only 20 percent do now," he points out. "We can turn around our diet and lifestyle, too."

One thing we Americans have going for us: We are always up for a challenge. So try these healthful ideas inspired by healthy women around the world.

Blue zones -- like areas in Italy, Japan, Greece, California, and Costa Rica where the people have traditionally stayed active to age 100 or older -- are some of the healthiest in the world. "In every Blue Zone, they eat less than we do, by at least 20 percent," Buettner says.

One trick for slashing portions: "Instead of putting big platters of food at the center of the table, fill each plate at the counter," Buettner says.

Everyone is different, so different things will work for them when it comes to losing weight. But stick with the basic - calories in vs calories out.
In addition to this, I have found some tips that work for me ( I added these in over the course of 7 years, not all at once, and I have lost (and kept off) over 80 lbs)
First and foremost - get rid of anything in your kitchen that contains "partially hydrogenated oils"
This is basically "Crisco". Remember that synthetic white lard? Avoid it at all costs.
For me, counting calories and reading labels. It makes me stop and think. I love it. I know people hate this, but for me, it gave me something to focus on. I still do both of these.
Find out how many calories you need in 1 day being sedentary. This is the minimum # of cals you need to breath, etc.... Keeping that number in mind - remember that 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat. This means if your BMR is 1500 cals a day, for every 3500 calories deficit you have - you will lose 1 pound. So eat 1300 cals a day and burn 200 on the treadmill and you will lose a pound a week.
Good luck losing the weight. It really is awesome.

It seems these days everyone who has lost 2lbs. or more has become a Weight Loss TPG (Talking Points Guy). Ok, everyone knows how to lose weight, but yet our country has the most obese population than any other. As a former MOO (Morbidly Obese Overweight) individual, I am still uncomfortable discussing weight loss advice with others because the reality is nothing works unless you work On it, At it or Towards, excerpt taken from my ebook "Changing Mirrors." Most people are still waiting for the Pill. Liquid, or Powder to "melt the pounds away." To lose weight is simple, invest in yourself by exercising Patience, Efforts, Workouts (PEW). My HELP Strategies work, I went from a size 5X to Large (8 dress sizes in 5 months) without dieting, insane exercising, or surgery. I eat to lose weight and my food comes from the grocery stores. www.changingmirrors.com

One of the best ways to lose weight healthily, is on the prasouda diet. It doesn't just help you shed those extra pounds, it also lowers the risks of high blood pressure, strokes, alzheimers and the chances of developing type 2 diabetes.

I was expecting an article filled with advice and tips, instead I got things that every person should already know. I have two boys and at times it's hard to keep up with a healthy eating lifestyle when the boys are going through a picky stage or we are on the go to little league or wherever. Would have been nice to see some other suggestions and maybe just maybe a real article, not a bunch of pictures.

Too bad the author wasn't competent enough to write an actual article instead of a "slideshow". Might have actually been interesting.
