Kate Middleton Dons Hat, Wellies For Football On Christmas Eve 2011 (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/29/2011 12:18 pm Updated: 12/29/2011 12:30 pm

Royal jeans alert!

We were delighted as soon as we spotted these pics on Lynn News of Kate Middleton enjoying a more casual Christmas.

While photos of the Duchess looking lovely in plum at Christmas services were already released, we were wondering what Kate was doing with -- and wearing in -- her downtime.

Bundled up in a L.K. Bennett Darwin sheepskin jacket in chocolate brown and blue jeans, Kate joined Wills, Prince Harry and Prince Charles and watched the boys play a game of football (that's soccer to us Americans) on Christmas eve in a mysterious but muddy British locale. She kept cozy underneath in a cream-colored Temperly honeycomb tunic and in a pair of green Wellies (Harry had matching ones!).

And the crowning touch? Her brown, wide-brimmed fedora. Fab!

Catherine's football look reminds us of the last time she dressed country western, albeit more literally -- at the Calgary Rodeo this summer.

Kate, we're hoping next year you get in the game yourself -- we're dying for some pics of you in a football uniform!

Check out the photos below, and see more at Lynn News.

I do not like (American) football but I do like watching soccerball. American football is such a stupid sport which causes football players to suffer brain concussions and they expect football fans to make donations to pay for their medical expenses cause by their sport injuries. I know of a simply solution to this problem: DON'T PLAY AMERICAN FOOTBALL. Play soccerball instead, alot safer.

are you stupid?

What kind of a question is that???? I did not say a person was stupid, I said American Football is stupid.

Wow a member of the 1% club apparently slumming it. Why anyone would give a damn for these parasites I have no idea. What they do demonstrate is the power of propaganda. Read Tomas Paine and America can then return to the things which it held dear.

Wellies are a staple item, I love my Hunter boots.

Well now I know what "Wellies" are! That is a new one. She wears those "jeggings" quite well too. Good for them taking their time having children and not being pressured into it...it has not even been a year yet anyway. I thought that was William there next to her till I scrolled to the top......

She looks good. I see no 'baby bump' yet like some tabloids are suggesting.

Catherine is a beautiful young lady. She wears everything so well. We are looking for another Diana and I think we found her. Good for you Wills, job well done finding your life love.

Hardly, Diana was a mess. This girl is terribly together, and educated.

What fresh hell is this?

No, we are not looking for another Diana. At least not those of us who want the monarchy to survive.

It's occuring to me that Kate is often, if not always, referred to her maiden name by the press; not as "princess" Kate. Diana was rarely called, Spencer by the press then. Then it also occurrs to me that the royal family has no sir name either other than the "House" or Dukedom to which they belong or assigned, which in this case is the "House of Windsor or Dukedom of Cambridge.
05:26 PM on 12/30/2011
Oh, please. Get over it.
05:35 PM on 12/30/2011
The royal family are from the House of Windsor. They are the Windsors. That is their sir name. What are you confused about? Or are you just wasting some time here? Rhetorical.

It's surname - not sir name. As titled royals they have no need to use a surname, but when one is necessary for legal reasons it is Mountbatten-Windsor - Prince Phillip lobbied hard to get that for his descendants.

These royals can use any one of a bunch of names based on territory - like William Wales (as he's known in the military and at school prior), William Cambridge (like Sophie Wessex). He reportedly called Katherine Mrs. Wales on their wedding day.

I remember reading that the Duchess asked to be called Catherine. Seems simple enough to me. Why won't the media honor her wishes? Are they really so lazy that they can't type out Catherine?

The media honoring the wishes of celebrities? Then there would be no paparazzi!

You cared enough to comment. Admitting it is the first step!
05:37 PM on 12/30/2011
I wish that when someone comments that they don't care, some other pedantic poster(s) would not rush to post things like "You cared enough to comment." Or, "Why are you here then?" The comment "I don't care" is a legitimate comment. Stop jumping on everyone who comments this way.
