'Absolutely Fabulous' Movie Report: Jennifer Saunders & Joanna Lumley Head To Big Screen?

Is 'Ab Fab' Headed To The Big Screen?

With fans hopeful that "Arrested Development," "Party Down" and "Veronica Mars" will be getting their time on the big screen, fans of the across-the-pond hit "Absolutely Fabulous" can now join in on the waiting game.

Jennifer Saunders, the co-creator of the BBC award-winning series, said she plans to make a big screen version of the show, set in a luxurious locale.

“I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring,” Saunders told New York magazine recently.

"Absolutely Fabulous" -- on which Saunders also stars as debaucherous publicist Edina and Joanna Lumley plays her drinks-like-a-sailor, smokes-like-a-fish sidekick Patsy -- returned to the small screen recently on BBC, leaving no celebrity un-mocked. On their Christmas season special, Eddy and Patsy's jabs at the Kardashians earned "Absolutely Fabulous" high ratings and critical rave.

Saunders, who has since lent her voice to the "Shrek" franchise, penned the Kardashian-taunting episode, which marked the "Ab Fab's" return have a six year absence. (The special will air in the U.S. on Logo and BBC America starting Jan. 8 at 10 p.m. EST, according to TV Guide.)

No matter what happens with the big screen adaptation, there is another "Ab Fab" TV special -- this time, Olympics-themed -- in the works for 2012.
