With Chinese New Year just around the corner, workers from Beijing to Changsha are lining up in droves to purchase train tickets for peak travel season, which stretches from early January into early March. The China Rail tickets were released earlier this week and train stations are now crowded with thousands of would-be travelers eager to go home or on vacation during Spring Festival and for Chinese New Year on January 23.

The China Daily is projecting that a record 235 million train trips will be made between January 8 and February 16 and the Ministry of Public Security has pledged to crack down of scalpers according to the China Daily. In years past, there have not been enough tickets to meet demand, leading to the creation of a profitable and fairly massive secondary market.

The Daily, a government-sponsor paper, is also reporting the new online ticket purchasing system is not working properly and that many people have not received confirmation for tickets despite money being withdrawn from their accounts. These complaints are being aired on the popular QQ chatrooms, but most of the chatting about train tickets is probably going on in these epic lines.
