Benny Sapp Cited For Assault: Vikings CB Cited For Misdemeanor At Children's Hospital

Benny Sapp Assault Vikings

12/31/11 08:23 PM ET   AP

MINNEAPOLIS -- Police say Minnesota Vikings cornerback Benny Sapp has been cited for fifth-degree assault and careless driving, both misdemeanors, after a run-in with security at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.

Officers were called Friday morning after police say Sapp and his 11-year-old son tried to enter the hospital through a closed entrance. The Star Tribune reports Sapp left his son with a hospital security guard, saying the boy's mother was inside and he had to go to work.

Sapp allegedly pushed a security officer who tried to detain him in the parking ramp. Police Sgt. Bill Palmer says Sapp then chest-bumped a security officer who was standing in front of his vehicle.

A Vikings spokesman says the team is aware of the incident. Messages to Sapp's agent were not returned Saturday.

I have seen someone snatch a paper from a security guard and be charged with assualt.

easy to jump to conclusions when you are a bigot. Not even sure if I believe he left his son or why. This is not a complete story.

Everyone knows rules and laws don't apply to celebrities. Everyone knows that, especially them, just ask them. And they're raising their children to feel just as special and enabled.

I thought crime was a socio-economic issue? why then do millionaire athletes commit violent crime with such frequency?

they are enabled and excused for all bad behavior in high schools that revere winning titles over either education or decency. also, years ago those who came from poor backgrounds and were lucky enough to have a talent at a sport that made them wealthy tried to better themselves while today they think being ignorant, violent and entitled is something to admire...

Security Guards? Security? If a security guard tried to detain me, or put a hand on me...I would be within my rights to do whatever was necessary to get loose. They are not police, nor are they The Law. Who knows what Benny was up to....but assault was prob. not it.

You get fined big time for being late in the NFL, for anything. Film, workout, practice, etc.

I don't want NFL players coddled....but he is just here a month from Miami. Maybe they don't have their ritual ironed out, and maybe there was a minor emergency.

By the way, he IS playing today.

This headline makes it seem like he was abusing children.
I am one of the most staunch supporters of throwing the book at NFL criminals...but this seems way overboard, both from the security boys and the HuffPo headline.

guard probably as a gesture as not to alarm a big football player, put his hand on him to get his attention before he drove off." Leaving your son with a Sec. Guard, anybody white red blue. is not a rational decision.' the fact that he was irate > sapp says he was more upset with his wife.' And our Pres. like Mike Vick would agree here.' Sapp did not use good judgement before he even arrived at the Hosp." I am a Dem. Love Barack.'

In the sports/celebrity world where being crude, rude and mouthy is highly rewarded, what else can you expect?
Yes, it's the fault of the perpetrator, but we the people who expect, shrug off, tolerate, condone and even admire such actions must share much of the blame.
And the courts reinforce such actions every time they slap an offender on the wrist when he/she should be slapped with meaningful penalties they can ill afford or don't forget.
The team officials, owners and affiliates? They couldn't care less. It's sports fans’ money they want, and the bottom line is all they care about.

Vkings - worst season ever BUT leading the league in arrests. Maybe if they reversed the trends and quit hiring punks they might improve their record. What a joke this franchise had become. Let's hope they find it in their hearts to either change their attitude or move to LA.
