LeBron James Engaged: Savannah Brinson Accepts New Year's Eve Proposal From Heat Star (PHOTOS)

Lebron James Engaged Savannah Brinson

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/01/12 10:52 AM ET Updated: 01/01/12 12:16 PM ET

When LeBron James first entered the NBA straight out of St. Vincent-St. Mary high school, he wore No. 23 in honor of Michael Jordan. This week he seems to have taken another cue from his Airness -- proposing to a longtime girlfriend. On New Year's Eve, James proposed to Savannah Brinson, his high school sweetheart and the mother of his two children, just days after MJ got engaged to model Yvette Prieto.

In the early hours of 2012, Miami Heat owner Mickey Arison tweeted his congratulations to the couple, who was ringing in 2012 at a bash at the SL Nightclub in South Beach.

Micky Arison
Congrats to Lebron. and Savannah so happy 4 u guys.

According to the Miami Herald, the New Year's Eve bash also doubled as a birthday for party for James, who turned 27 on Friday. Among the glitterati in attendance the along with members of the Miami Heat were Queen Latifah and Lauren Hill.

Shortly after James infamously announced that he would be taking his prodigious talents from the couple's home state to South Beach during "The Decision" in July 2010, Brinson admitted that Miami wasn't her first-choice destination and even discussed her hopes for marriage with Harper's Bazaar.

"I've definitely not put a fire under his ass. I would never rush him to do something like that. We're really comfortable with the way things are now. And it's not up to me. When it happens, it happens." Brinson told Lola Ogunnaike of Harper's in 2010. "We talk about it. If we do it, I want it to be forever."

Although an NBA championship ring continues to elude him, James is now on his way to wearing one that he will hopefully consider even more important -- a wedding ring.

New Years Eve is going to be here before you know it and there's one Party in San Francisco that everyone will be talking about. Voted "Best Event of 2012" (Under 8000 attendees) by the San Francisco, California Music & Culture Association and the #1 NYE on the West Coast by Huffington Post.We welcome you to take a step back in time to the prosperous Roaring 20's and let your inhibitions loose at San Francisco's newest venue, Per Diem. Tucked away in the commercial District, Per Diem is a 2 level speakeasy that is the perfect setting to enjoy sf new years eve parties with your closest friends. Inspired by Gatsby's elaborate parties in the masterpiece by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we will be re-creating the secret "West Egg" soirees that were paid for with prohibition-fueled bootlegger money.

It's lies!!! Lebron is the gay Tiger Woods of basketball. You will all learn the truth soon.

She is beautiful, and he is a lucky SOB. In just 10 years he'll be an ailing "has been", and she'll be by his side, kind and supportive. At least that's the idea.

Bye the way, why do the majority of comments mention "black", "white", "green" and the rest of the spectrum? Love is color blind.

LeBUM said today that the 2012 Olympic B-ball Team is better than the Dream Team of 1992 !!!

There must be something funny in his Farina ..... because he is dumber than I thought. No other way to account for it.

Here's 10 reasons why he is wrong in case some of you don't remember or are too young to remember ............
1.) Michael JORDAN
2.) Larry BIRD
3.) Magic JOHNSON
4.) Karl MALONE
5.) Scottie PIPPEN
6.) John STOCKTON
7.) Charles BARKLEY
8.) Chris MULLINS
9.) Patrick EWING
10.) Kareem ABDUL JABBAR

I will say that the present day athlete continues to be a better physical specimen but there is "NO WAY" that the aforementioned PURE Talent, and their savvy and smarts for the game would ever lose to LeBUM & co. head to head. Athleticism does NOT win championships alone. Smarts and talent does.

Hey LeBum, show some respect for the guys that made the NBA what it was and no longer is. The ten listed brought class and professionalism, not your crap, to the league. You and others have made it a circus.

Kareem wasn't on that 1992 dream team. That's why i say it wasn't the best, it could have been. Had Kareem not been black someone would have asked him to be on the greatest team ever. Farve has been asked, to do everything.... including come back today. SAD! Even TEBOW has been asked, lol .... and he's a SCRUB!

Favre & Tebow have "NO relevance" to my position.

So, I recalled ONE member inaccurately by mentioning the second best Center of All Time (just my opinion) "KAJ". Bill Russell was the #1.

Fact is you could ask any knowledgeable person who has followed the NBA as long as I have and they'd tell you the "9" I listed correctly would eat these guys today. In my opinion D-Wade, Nowitzki, and a few other present day players could fit with the Dream Team for one reason beside their talent ...... they are smart, court savvy ballplayers. The only member of the Dream Team who wasn't as smart on the floor as his mates was Barkley. He made up for it with his determination and physicality. But guys like Bird, MJ, Stckton, malone Mullins were all smart guys who knew the game real well. END OF DISCUSSION.

Thanks LeBron for loving and committing to a black woman, given that so few black men of prominence seem to have forgotten how or never learned.

Too bad, HuffPost cut Savannah out of the couples picture. What's up with that? That didn't happen when Michael Jordan was shown on this site in the article about his engagement to his Cuban-American fiance. As a black woman, feeling occasionally annoyed by the strange proclivity of black men towards non-black trophy wives and girlfriends, I am puzzled by the way the photo was cropped. I never read Ralph Ellison's The Invisible Man, but these are the kind of *editing decisions* that contribute to the syndrome of the invisible black woman. It's a subtle message; subliminal but profound.

(And yes, I did see the photo of LeBron with his family. I am thankful at least for that.)

As I black man, I must say you have some serious issues. I just looked at the pictures and she wasn't "cut out" of any. She's in every one. Also the overwhelming majority of black men of "prominence" (whatever that means) are with black women. I suggest stop devoting so much emotion to who someone chooses to be with. And please get more fiber in your diet.

Scroll to the top of this article. You will see a picture of LeBron. Savannah isn't in it. That you didn't see that is just as revealing as what you claim is revealing about me because I did see it.

Having a problem with my choice of words, is one thing, attacking me is quite another. I used "prominence" pejoratively. It was total sarcasm. Typically, I surround words intended to convey sarcasm with asterisks. I didn't this time. My mistake.

As for your suggestion about what to do with my time and emotions, the advice is not needed and not accepted. I observed and commented on a careless editing decision that I found irksome. It took less than 5 minutes, and hardly any emotion. Plenty of me left for love and laughter. Plenty. I use ALL of my experiences for growth or healing. All of us, including you, are welcomed to do the same, or not. Most everyone is wounded in some way by life, each in our own way.

As for your fiber suggestion, I instead find that a little olive oil in grapefruit juice works wonders.

Who anyone loves and commits to is their business. When that love and commitment is genuine, I celebrate that. But you and no one will convince me that the fact that black men date and marry other races more than ANY other race of men on this planet is merely coincidental (or as is often suggested, a failing of black women).

~Peace

For everyone that thinks LeQuit is "doing the right thing."

His long term girlfriend and baby mamma is about to become a common law wife having lived with him for so long. If LeQuit leaves things as they are, she is entitled to half if they divorce. If he marries her now with a pre-nup, he can keep more of his money when she leaves him for his perpetual cheating.

That's entirely possible, but it's also entirely possible that he wants to marry her. Whatever the reason for the timing, congrats to them!

Let's not consider LeBron married yet. When she's walking down the isle and the pressure is on, he'll fold like a lawn chair.
