Brad Jones Tackles Packers Fan: Green Bay LB Stops Fan Running On Field (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/02/12 12:07 AM ET Updated: 01/02/12 09:56 AM ET

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay Packers linebacker Brad Jones' best tackle of the day might not have been on another football player.

Jones stepped up to make the stop when a fan ran on the field during the second half of Sunday's regular-season finale between the Packers and Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field without immediately being noticed by security.

Security took over from there, surrounding the fan and taking him into custody.

A Packers spokesman did not immediately comment on the incident. The team's website says entering the playing field without proper authorization is a "violation of league rules and city ordinance," and that violators are subject to ejection and arrest.

Didn't Ditka do this once too? I wish the networks would show this stuff on the telecast.

Don't know about Ditka, but James Harrison did it to a Cleveland Clown fan a couple of years ago.

It was a streaker that Ditka hit, wasn't it? I think he leveled him.

I was on the west coast and I wish I could have seen this game. I hope LSU grads got to see Matt Flynn in action. Brad Jones was gentle, IMHO, with a fan who probably had multiple intoxicants coursing through his veins. He didn't act like Mike Curtis. The fan will have avwar story to tell friends.

Brad Jones should not have hit that person. Security already had him. Jones must have been trained by Bloomberg's NYC police force.

I understand that Rob Cheetham, of the law firm Dewy, Cheetham and Howe, now represents the fan and is considering a multi-million dollar lawsuit!

Good thing the cops had the common sense to not hit this guy while he was on the ground, lest they get the crap kicked out of them by the fans, like that soccer game in Europe where the cops got pulverized for hitting a guy while they had him pinned down.

That's the risk a person takes when they run onto a playing field. Check out the great James Harrison on a Cleveland fan:

Wow, the game has sure changed. Practically all of those tackles you see in beginning of that piece would be illegal today. Curtis goes after his opponents head in every one of those tackles. Today, he'd be suspended and fined thousands of $$$ for playing like that. Makes you wonder if the old LB's of the past could make it in today's game, since they couldn't deliver cheap shots on every play. I mean, how hard is it to throw a shoulder, arm, or fist at a guys helmet?
