Pit Bull Attack Leaves Chicago Jogger In Critical Condition (VIDEO)

Jogger In Critical Condition After Being Attacked By Pit Bulls

A 62-year-old Chicago man remains in critical condition after he was attacked by two pit bull terriers while jogging on the city's lakefront path Monday morning.

Two dogs bit the man repeatedly over his entire body, including his face, arms and legs, the Tribune reported.

A resident who lives nearby came to the victim's aid in an attempt to intervene in the attack after he heard a commotion.

"I started whacking the dogs with the bat, but they wouldn't let up," Stanley Lee, a resident of Chicago's South Shore, told CBS Chicago.

When police arrived at the scene and located the 70-pound, muscular pit bulls, the dogs charged toward the officers and were fatally shot, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Neither dogs had identifying microchips or tags, but were wearing matching black collars. Neither dog had been neutered.

The victim was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital and listed in critical condition.
