Michele Bachmann Iowa Caucus 2012 Results: Campaign Manager Says Future Is Uncertain

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Michele Bachmann's campaign manager says it's hard to tell whether she will continue her campaign after a bleak showing in the Iowa caucuses.

Asked if he could say with certainty whether she would go forward with her candidacy, Bachmann campaign manager Keith Nahigian told The Associated Press, "I don't know yet."

He added, "It's hard to tell, but everything is planned."

Bachmann was in last place among six candidates in the nation's first Republican presidential nominating contest Tuesday night. It was a sharp turn for the Minnesota congresswoman after finishing in first place during the Iowa GOP's summer straw poll.

Nahigian's comments came as Bachmann appeared to address an anemic crowd of about 60-70 people for her caucus night party.

Before the voting began, Bachmann traveled to the backyard of her childhood to make her final appeal for support, imploring voters in her native Iowa to "reclaim our country." But the caucus site was hardly unified. Bachmann would need more than hometown connections to pull back into contention.

"I feel sorry for her," said Randy Herod, a retired business consultant. "She's real nice, but this isn't her time."

Bachmann spent days before the big vote deflecting questions about her staying power. Her campaign team initially had insisted she would press on to South Carolina, where Republicans have a Jan. 21 primary, no matter the caucus outcome.

Seriously? Can't you all report even the simplest things accurately? Go back and check - I'll give you a clue - "Huntsman".

Hey Bachmann, how'd the god thing work out for ya'?
12:26 AM on 01/05/2012
... about as well as voting for "Hope n Change" worked for us ... Trillions more in Debt, high inflation on consumables/food/basics, nearly 20% Real Unemployment, and nobody can get a loan.

I'll take Bachmann's God over your "Light Skinned Negro" ..

Bachmann may have finished first in the straw poll technically, but really that was a vote for Toby Keith and free food.

Hey HuffPo - Your teaser headline "Finishes Last in Iowa" is incorrect. She didn't finish last, she finished 6th place from last behind Buddy Roemer, Herman Cain, No Preference, Other and John Huntsman. Just to clarify, I'm delighted she did so poorly - she's a regrettable human being - but the MSM, which includes HuffPo, has to hold itself to slightly higher standards of accuracy than Bachmann herself. So, here's the correct teaser: "Finishes Almost Last in Iowa."

Well duh. Everyone else could see months ago that she had no chance in running for President.

I used to be disgusted, but now I'm just amused.

She only beat Huntsman, who wasn't running in Iowa.
What do you call that?

Wouldn't the primary process make more sense if all states held theirs on the same day? Why are less than 200K people in Iowa trimming down the pack of candidates?

I wouldn't vote for any of these candidates, but the same thing will apply to Dems in 2016.

I also find it disgusting that some of these campaigns are spending around 10 millions dollars pre-caucus. For Romney that would be around $333 per vote! We live in a democracy where only the extremely rich or corporate backed have a shot at public office.

Why does the article say she finished last when she beat Huntsman?

Because the media decides who the actual candidates are.
02:13 PM on 01/04/2012
Because Huntsman wasn't competing in Iowa, even though his name may have been technically in the running.

I guess she's found out having no solutions and just attacking Obama care just doesn't cut it.

It's not good to say God told you to do anything, let alone run for president. His son, Jesus, was , if anything, a socialist, certainly not a capitalist. The fraying robes and the worn out sandals tell the tale of a man born into poverty who then chose a life of poverty and was killed by the governor. Jesus' belief that the poor were as important as the rich was a dangerous idea that was spreading. Michelle should just go back and say her husband told her to run and she has always done what he has told her to do. leave god out of it. He has better things to do than pick presidential candidates for the USA.

I believe God did tell her to run. Once the laughter subsided, Jesus then said, "No, no--wait, Dad, I got a better one--HEY RICK! THIS IS JESUS! I NEED YOU TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT, MY SON!" St. Peter nearly fell off his cloud.

What is it that's so uncertain about 95% of the voters telling you NO???
11:50 AM on 01/04/2012
.... using your sophomoric logic, over 99% of voters told Huntsman NO and he's still in.

No need for insults, my friend. To avoid your over-simplification, one (95% No) campaigned heavily and visited every county. The other (99% No) didn't bother. How’s that for additional perspective?
