Portlandia Covers Salt-N-Pepa In San Francisco

The only thing San Francisco hearts more than the city of Portland is the TV show Portlandia.

IFC's breakout cult hit sketch comedy show deftly skewers the trials and tribulations of San Francisco's equally freegan neighbor to the north with such deft precision that we Bay Area denizens all kind of wish we had our own version to religiously Tivo and then laugh nervously when they do a sketch about bloggers totally dropping "freegan" in the middle of a sentence without feeling the need to explain it in the slightest way.

Anyway, to promote the launch of the show's second season, stars Fred Armissen (of Saturday Night Live fame) and Carrie Brownstein (of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag fame) swung by San Francisco's Mezzanine lounge with a traveling stage show of skits, songs and other shenanigans.

By all accounts, the highlight of the show was when San Francisco/Pacific Northwest duo Thao & Mirah hopped onstage for a cover of Salt-N-Pepa's legendary 90's hip-hop anthem "Push It."

New episodes of Portlandia hit the air on January 6th but can be seen online here.
