The Moss Room Closed, Charles Phan Reopening

The New And Improved Moss Room: Resto To Reopen With A Famous New Chef

According to the restaurant's website, The Moss Room at the California Academy of Sciences has closed until further notice. In what the San Francisco Chronicle dramatically described as a frantic last-minute announcement ("people who had New Year's Day reservations had them canceled the night before; staffers say they didn't know until January 1"), the popular restaurant shuttered its doors on New Year's Day, and executive chef Loretta Keller left the project.

But fret not, there's a serious silver lining: Grubstreet reported that Charles Phan -- of Slanted Door Group restaurant fame -- is taking over. Which is basically like Marcellus Wallace sending in the Wolf.

According to the Chronicle, Phan is completely revamping the restaurant with a new concept, new menu and possibly even a new name. The new restaurant should open within "a month or two." Phan has operated the Academy Cafe above the Moss Room since the museum opened in 2008.

Neither The Moss Room nor Charles Phan immediately returned requests for comment from The Huffington Post, but we'll have our ears to the ground and our reservations ready.
