Police: Man Gouged Out Uncle's Eyes In Argument Over Remote

A suburban Chicago man was accused Tuesday of gouging his uncle's eyes out during an argument over the TV remote control on New Year's Eve.

Exulam I. Holman, 32, of Joliet, Ill. was charged with aggravated domestic battery and ordered held on $1 million bond in the incident.

According to the Will County Sheriff's Department, police were called to a home in the 1100 block of McKay Street in Joliet, where they discovered the 62-year-old victim, Holman's uncle, with his eyeballs protruding from his eye sockets and blood streaming down his face, AP reports. The victim told police his nephew had pinned him to the ground and used his thumbs in an attempt to pry his eyes from his face.

The man told police that he and his nephew had been arguing over control of the TV remote control, CBS Chicago reports.

The victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and then transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital where he will require surgery to restore limited vision in his right eye. The victim, according to CBS, is now blind in his left eye.
