The Basics
Located in rural Danbury, New Hampshire,
is about 90 minutes from Boston and just over an hour from Manchester, New Hampshire, by car or bus. For those flying into New England, it's near Logan Airport in Boston, Lebanon Municipal Airport and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. With few hotels in the immediate area and relatively small crowds most weekends, Ragged Mountain has a local, small-town feel. This family-friendly resort has plenty to offer beginners as well as the more experienced. Ragged boasts many expert trails, making it a popular destination for true enthusiasts who want to spend more time on the slopes and less time in line.
The Mountain
With a 2,250-foot-high summit and a vertical drop of 1,250 feet,
is a midsized ski mountain with more than 200 acres of trails. Average annual snowfall is 100 inches plus state-of-the-art snowmaking for most of the slopes. The mountain opens to skiers and snowboarders in either late November or early December, with a projected season of 140 days. A third of the trails are black diamond advanced or double black diamond expert, with the rest being either beginner or intermediate, so the mountain offers significant challenges for advanced and expert-level skiers and plenty of opportunities for less experienced skiers to hone their skills.
Trails And Lifts
Ragged Mountain features the only high-speed
lift in New England, plus four more leisurely lifts and a "wonder carpet" lift for kids. Of the
, 30 percent are beginner level, 40 percent are intermediate and 30 percent are advanced or expert. Slow ski areas are designated for beginners, including the long and winding Turnpike trail.

Ragged Mountain underwent a
that included a new automated snowmaking system. One hundred high-efficiency snow guns were also added to the resort's arsenal. The upgrades were unveiled in December 2011.
Cost
A basic, full-day lift ticket costs $62 for an adult on weekdays and $71 on weekends and holidays. Tickets for teens 13 to 18 are $47 and $57, juniors 6 to 12 and seniors 65 to 79 are $37 and $47, and those 5 and younger or 80 and older ski free. Lower Mountain tickets are also available for $34 and $44. Packages, season passes and discounts for military and college students are available. Full-day skiing or snowboarding
packages are $41 for adults and $31 for juniors.

Ragged offers
, lodging and entertainment, so skiers and boarders can make their trips as all-inclusive as they want them to be. Tallula's Tavern features lunch, dinner and drinks, plus live entertainment on weekend evenings. The Pub at Ragged Mountain serves both resort guests and locals wood-fired pizza, pub fare and fine dining entrees such as baked sea scallops and prime rib.
