The Basics
Downhill skiers, snowboarders, cross-country skiers and snowmobilers all find a niche at
in northeastern Vermont. The ski resort, which is in East Burke (a village in the town of Burke), is accessible by flying into Vermont's Burlington International Airport, about 90 miles away. Burke Mountain has a wintertime feel that all ages and skill levels can appreciate.
The Mountain
is divided into two sections: the lower portion is for beginners, and the higher elevations feature more challenging terrain and trails. With an average snowfall of 240 inches and with additional snowmaking, Burke Mountain Resort is covered with powder for much of the winter. It has a 2,011-foot vertical drop and 260 acres of skiable area, with more than 100 acres of glades. No matter the skill level, Burke Mountain has a trail for everyone, with 44 percent of the terrain for advanced and experts, 42 percent for intermediate skiers and the remaining 14 percent for beginners. The resort is open from December through March.
Trails And Lifts
Burke Mountain Resort's
, being divided between beginner and advanced, prevent skiers from mistakenly entering a trail for which they aren't skilled. The lower portion of the mountain is dedicated to green beginner trails and the higher elevations are home to more expert trails. Three terrain parks located on the lower portion of Burke Mountain Resort are an ideal place for skiers and snowboarders to practice tricks and maneuvers. Burke Mountain Resort has six lifts, with two high-speed quads, a fixed-grip quad and three surface lifts.

Burke Mountain Resort hosted the
in 2011 for the second time. The Rave-X Freestyle Team performed and participants engaged in extreme snowmobiling during the event. Burke Mountain Resort also hosts a
every Saturday at 5 p.m. near the Sherburne Base Lodge. Additionally, Burke Mountain Academy claims more than 50 Olympic skiers as current and former trainees.

offers a host of apres-ski activities and lodging, making it an ideal destination for a ski getaway. Off-site lodging options include traditional hotels as well as a variety of lodges, cabins and bed-and-breakfasts. After a long day on the slopes, guests can head to the

, located off-site. Tamarack Grill, at Burke Mountain Resort's Sherburne Base Lodge, is a good place to get some local food and beers. The city of Burke boasts a variety of cafes and bars, and it offers a wide selection of shopping and other recreational activities that include horseback riding and kayaking.
