The Basics
Nestled in the White Mountain National Forest,
is located in the Franconia Notch State Park of northern New Hampshire. Getting to the resort is easy since it's directly off of Interstate 93. The resort, one of the oldest in the country, is one hour from Concord, New Hampshire, 2 1/2 hours from Boston and slightly less than three hours from Montreal. The closest airport is
in Manchester, New Hampshire, about two hours away.
The Mountain
The
at 4,080 feet is the highest in New Hampshire, and the vertical drop of 2,180 feet is the longest in the state. Cannon Mountain's 72 trails encompass 23 miles, with the longest measuring 2.3 miles. Ski season lasts from late November through mid-April, with an average snowfall of 160 inches along with snowmaking and grooming capabilities. The resort includes an area for kids as well as the
for those learning how to ski. This area sits apart from the main mountain and provides 13 trails.
Trails And Lifts
Cannon Mountain has
, the most famous of which is its 70-passenger Aerial Tramway that brings skiers to the summit in fewer than 10 minutes. The resort also has three quad chairs, three triple chairs, one double chair, one handle tow and one Wonder Carpet. Runs are divided into 21 percent beginner, 47 percent intermediate and 32 percent expert. The lifts can transport 11,000 skiers every hour.

Olympic medalist and world skiing champion Bode Miller established the Turtle Ridge Foundation to support environmental issues and youth athletic programs all over the United States. Cannon Mountain Ski Area helps support this organization by hosting
, a fun racing event for children, adults and adaptive skiers. Bode Miller presides at the fest, and all registration fees go to the foundation. Cannon Mountain is also home to the
, a group of skiers whose mission is to "impart the joys of skiing" by giving instruction in skiing and racing. The club was formed in 1933.
Cost
An adult
costs $68 for a full day and $46 for a half day. Prices are discounted for teens, college students, military personnel, juniors and seniors. Seniors 65 and older ski free Monday through Friday, and children 5 and younger ski free every day. Multi-day pricing for two, three and four days is also available ranging from $85 for a two-day junior or senior pass to $233 for a four-day adult pass. An adult

Apres-Ski
Every Saturday means
at Cannon Mountain at the Peabody Base Area. The Huckerbrook Mini-Park is open under lights, and kid movies play at the Brookside Lodge. Adults can eat and have fun at the
, which features a full menu. Parties and live entertainment are held there almost every weekend during the ski season. There is no lodging on-site, but guests can find places to stay in the nearby towns of Woodstock, Lincoln, Franconia, Whitefield, Sugar Hill, Littleton and Twin Mountain.
