'Hot In Cleveland': Flashback To The 1980s To See How The Girls First Met (VIDEO)

'Hot In Cleveland' Flashes Back To The 1980s

The girls took a trip back to the 1980s on "Hot in Cleveland" (Wed., 10 p.m. EST on TV Land) to tell Elka the story of how they first met. It must have come as no surprise to Elka that it was while they were all crying. Victoria was lamenting her failing career as an actress -- this was mere hours before she got the part on "Edge of Tomorrow" -- while Melanie had just caught her boyfriend cheating and Joy had just been stood up at the altar.

So the three ladies bonded over their shared misery, while the show reveled in making fun of the '80s -- doing a better job of it in one episode than "That '80s Show" did during its entire run. Victoria was owning that Madonna-inspired look, but it was even better when it flashed back to her getting fired from Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video as one of his faceless back-up beauties.

They even managed to squeeze in a shot of Elka from the era, using footage of one of Betty White's many game show appearances throughout those years. Joy caught her on the television, and realized Elka looked strangely familiar now. We even got a nice little flashback to the pilot of "Hot in Cleveland" to see how things went down from Elka's point of view upon her first meeting these three crazy women from California.

Watch "Hot in Cleveland" Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. EST on TV Land.
