Jessica Chastain On Broadway In 'The Heiress'

Breakthrough Star Actress Makes Next Move In Showbusiness Takeover

Jessica Chastian may be taking over Hollywood, but she isn't abandoning her New York roots.

The Golden Globe-nominated actress, who broke out with six starring film roles in 2011, has joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway revival of the play "The Heiress." She'll play Catherine Sloper, the reticent daughter of a wealthy, emotionally cold man. Sloper falls in love with Morris Townsend, who Catherine's father believes only wants her for her inheritance.

The play will mark Chastain's Broadway debut, but she's no stranger to stage drama. Trained at Juilliard, she appeared with Al Pacino in Oscar Wilde's "Salome," which was made into the film "Wild Salome" this year. She also starred in Ralph Fiennes' film adaptation of Shakespeare's "Coriolanus" this fall.

Nominated for the Golden Globe for her work in "The Help," Chastain also featured in "The Tree of Life," "The Debt," "Take Shelter," and "Texas Killing Fields" in 2011. Her turn in "The Tree of Life" earned her an award from the New York Film Critics' Circle.

Chastain's film slate doesn't get any clearer in 2012; she'll star in "Wettest County," "Tar," "Mama" and will take a small part in Terrence Malick's upcoming, untitled film. In 2013, she'll star in "Horizons" with Tom Cruise.

"Oh my god, I keep telling people, you're going to have to go out of your way to not see a film I'm in this year," the bubbly actress laughed in a conversation with The Huffington Post last summer. "It's an amazing problem to have. It's wonderful to be an actor with so many movies out."
